The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils were quick to choose violence during Wednesday's matchup, engaging in an all-out fight that saw all but two players ejected as soon as the game opened.
Eight players were assessed fighting majors and ejected during the line brawl, which took place right after the puck drop at Madison Square Garden.
The Devils' Curtis Lazar and Rangers' Jimmy Vesey were hit with fighting majors but remained eligible to play as they were ruled to be the "first fight." Every other skater on the ice was ejected because of their "secondary altercations."
The tossed Rangers players included Jacob Trouba, Matt Rempe, K'Andre Miller and Barclay Goodrow. For the Devils, John Marino, Chris Tierney, Kurtis MacDermid and Kevin Bahl were ejected.

....and they tell us Pro-Wrestling is fake...................
Both sides need to add a coach or two from the WWW
Almost. See my prior comment. In hockey, the visiting team puts their players on the ice first for almost every faceoff (including the opening faceoff). The coach of the home team reacts accordingly.
In a normal game, the visiting team might put their top line on the ice to start the game -- and the home coach puts his best defensive line out against them.

Thats just good old time NHL Hockey.
Yes, home team gets the final change.
McDermid for NJ is a tough guy, but he’s not a goon with only one purpose, like Rempe. McDermid isn’t in the lineup to try to injure the Rangers’ Panarin or Kreider
When Laviolette answered with Rempe, it was him saying “let’s go to war”
That was field hockey.
Things got even more interesting back in the day when one penalty box was shared by all the combatants.
That’s what I get for watching my Lightning play the Maple Leaves instead...they actually did ice hockey, we won 4-1 but the game was a lot closer in all the other stats and well played.
P.S. I think that’s why Caitlin Clark had become such a star among non-fans of women’s basketball: she plays the game well, works with her team, and takes on a lot less arrogance than she deserves. The same can be said of Kucherov and Stamkos for the Lightning, and Matthews and Nylander for Toronto.
MacDermid was acquired by the Devils earlier this season for the sole purpose of matching up against Rempe.
I hate going to a fight and a hockey games breaks out.
Its like that Star Trek episode - instead of playing dangerous strategic games among nations, which are complex calculations of threat and defense, very expensive, and can kill millions of people, we should instead rather create a small-scale simulation, which follows the same logic and rules. It will be called "The NHL."
Absolutely love that movie! Saving the GIF!!!!

Cops at the arena: “The Hansons”. Love that movie.
SLAP SHOT (1977): WHY THE HANSONS MEAN SO MUCH TO FANS.
