I'm pondering starting to take CBD gummies as a crutch to stop smoking. But I'm also looking for work and many jobs require passing a drug test. Does anyone have any experience as to how and whether these items can cause a drug test fail?

CBD is found in cannabis sativa along with THC. Both are components of cannabis. CBD should not show up on a drug test for cannabis.
No clue about CBD, but when I quit smoking, I used this simple technique:
Every time I wanted to smoke, I ran out to the yard so I wouldn’t frighten the pets and shouted every imaginable curse word as loud as I could. Took about 10 days and I haven’t smoked for the last 20 years.
I lived in the country. If your neighbors are too close, it won’t work.
SBD is not a scheduled drug
CBD is 100% legal, as it’s non-psychoactive. You should be fine - they don’t usually test for it.
I think you are correct, it is legal. However, although they don’t test for CBD, I think there is worry it may still show up on a test for THC (the tests are actually for THC byproducts). I know Delta-8 is legal in many states, but it shows up on a cabbabis drug test just as Delta-9 does.
I have no info about CBD or drug testing. I quit smoking on 5/1/2020, and haven’t looked back. I decided the last pack I had was the last one I would buy, and stretched it out over a few days. It was probably helpful that COVID was just getting popular, so it was challenging to go buy more cigarettes, but I did have a gas station that had a drive up window for them, for a few weeks before I quit.
I still think about it once in awhile. Did use some Nicorette gum or whatever it is, which I found to irritate my gums.
Anyway, good luck! This is probably a good time of year to try to stop, if you can be more active and eat more salads and veggies, to minimize weight gain. It might also be helpful if you have a goal (for example, monthly massage or golf outing) that will be somewhat indulgent, that you will now be able to afford due to not buying smokes.

To avoid getting a positive test for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound that produces the “high”, you need to stay away from “Full Spectrum CBD” which contains ALL the natural hemp compounds, including up to 0.3% THC (the legal Federal limit for THC in hemp-based CBD products).
Broad Spectrum CBD contains all the natural hemp compounds, but excludes any THC, so that should be safe for testing.
“CBD Isolate” is the purest form and contains only CBD, so that is considered safest for testing negative.
I fly corporate jets. In May of 2023 a guy who flies with me was having trouble sleeping. In casual conversation with his doctor, the doctor suggested CBD gummies. He tried some. They helped slightly.
He was working on his commercial helicopter certificate. While in a hover, his engine failed. The helicopter crashed and roll over. He was taken to the hospital. While he was unconscious, a blood sample was taken and submitted to drug testing. It came back positive for marijuana. My buddy is a Christian family man. Doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs.
His FAA medical certificate was revoked for “a history of drug use”. He is still fighting to get in reinstated.
Yes, i have first hand experience. As a machinist, i get drug tested for any new job I go to. I have been upfront with any employer that I, indeed, have used CBD, gummies or tincture. Several times I have been tested and the CBD does not show up. Whether its the low dose or something else I dont know. I found the tincture worked best, however I could not justify the cost vs. the minimal relief I got. so I stopped. your mileage may vary.

Well, I’d have to opine him taking CBD was not an intelligent risk; considering the kind of ultra-scrutiny that might be applied working for a helo certificate.
I’m not trying for anything like that, not even a CDL class “A” license. I was just inquiring if anyone had an experience like “yeah, I chewed two of the things and they blasted me out of the job”.
You should choose to use only 100% CBD from companies that certify the assay of their CBD product as having Zero- no THC, not even the DEA accepted level allowed which is 0.3% THC. Those having “trace” THC or 0.3% will have the THC showing up in drug tests— THC accumulates even at this %age and shows up in screens, which shows positive for THC and fail company drug tests. So DEA says it’s ok for companies to have this much and be legal, but that does not mean it doesn’t show up in drug tests.
The only safe way to go is to use certified assayed 0% THC , 100% CBD. Most gummies still have the 0.3% THC as an FYI

Here are others from Medical News Today, all of which provide COA of the assay lab values for CBD only- the only assured way to not have THC show up in your screening lab tests,provided you aren’t taking anything else that has THC, that is, in addition to CBD only. Hope this makes sense.

The CBD showing up is not the question. CBD is legal, THC is not.
So per prior post the CBD should have no THC in it, period.
CBD is utilized in prescription anti-seizure medications, and it is the CBD isolated compound without any THC. The CBD having proven anti-seizure properties and also anti-pain without any psychotropic THC in it.
This is a point lost on most arguing, for example, for so-called “medical” marijuana. Marijuana/THC is a Scheduled agent with DEA. States that allow it, the person must have a “prescription” like State card allowing them to have it. Without the card— it’s still illegal.
Trace amounts of THC will screw up a result and mess up an employee’s life and job.

Thank you for a simpler and clearer explanation than my lab geek one. Hemp based products have a Federal limit for manufacture and sale of THC containing Hemp based CBD.
When someone gets a lab screen they could get a shock when THC shows up.. which it will if using 0.3% THC CBD products.
The assay saying zero is real important and certain ethical companies do the diligence. The Isolate CBD is the safest choice.
