NFL Ref Throws Flag After Game Becomes Too Interesting

MIAMI, FL — An NFL game almost became watchable today, but was saved at the last moment by veteran referee John Ross.

"Not on my watch," said Ross as he strode to midfield with his fellow referees, aimlessly launching a flag. "Now let's stand here and make hand gestures to each other for a couple minutes until all the momentum and excitement has left the building."

Before the incident, the game between the Dolphins and Patriots had been going along as usual, with inane penalties and countless delays sucking all the life out the atmosphere. "Somehow, right in the middle of second quarter, the stars aligned," said local fan Jimmy Stanton. "We got three whole plays in a row without a single interruption. Three! Man, we were on our feet, the players were in a rhythm, you could just feel the energy suddenly building in the stadium."

Sensing fans were starting to enjoy themselves, referee John Ross leaned on his years of training and quickly intervened. "There may be a day when an NFL game is interesting, but today is not that day," said Ross. "I just yelled, 'Illegal motioning shift in the backfield with more than two men moving without being on the line of scrimmage'. Then we got together in middle of the field and talked about soup for a couple minutes until everyone was bored again. It was a close call."

At publishing time, Ross had ensured that every play for the remainder of the game was plagued with commercial breaks, asinine penalties, and randomly adding one second back on to the game clock.

My wife says the Refs are paid off by the Mafia to ‘not see stuff’, or make up stuff they didn’t see.....................

I still think Bama got away with a push-off on their winning TD against Auburn.

Sports betting is a huge money maker.

And not just in pro sports.

And a ref is a lot more likely to keep his trap shut than some drunk and/or drugged, degenerate, full-of-himself player.

Also the last Bama TD should have counted, but for some reason it didn’t.

The games have been unwatchable, boring, meaningless exhibitions for a few years.

For some reason that reminded me of Arlo Guthrie at the military induction center in Alice's Restaurant, sitting in the room with all the mother rapers, father stabbers and father rapers and mother stabbers.....

Watch the entire play and you will see that the defensive back grabbed Bond as he was trying to make his cut to the corner of the end zone. You think there was a push off; I think there was a hold. The truth is, neither of our opinions matter. The game is over and Bama won.

I watched a game for the first time in a very long time over Thanksgiving and I have to say I was disappointed to see that several commercials had straight white males in them. I thought we were over that. Fortunately they were all stupid or I don’t think I could have stood it.

The boys (and now in the woke NFL girls) in stripes had a rough weekend across the board. The ACC, SEC and Big 10 crews were substandard and the NFL games were anything but smooth. The Jacksonville Houston game was an abomination for officiating. Lots of crews getting their ass kicked today I would imagine. Some may be raking leaves next weekend.

To officiate that play the DH did not create a restriction. The OPi
I should have been called. But it takes a big set to throw that flag. FWIW OPI is the most under-called foul in the game.

After further discussion (the phrase we are taught for replay assist but not formal review) since you as a fan also have a lot of rules knowledge it appears. Zebras are taught to when in doubt leave the flag in the belt. Judgment calls are not permitted to be reviewed at any level.

Do you think that replay should be allowed to create fouls? This has been the biggest question since the DPI blown call in New Orleans a few years back.

What would fans tolerate? A replay slows the game down and breaks momentum. As a referee, I know when there is a challenge or replay mandated review, the game is in trouble because we are asked to manage the flow as well — make it look smooth and the fan experience is considered as part of the game administration, but not at the expense of kicking a call. We are also taught to officiate the entire play. An overzealous replay official makes the game completely unmanageable. It happens.

From an officiating perspective, replay is a mixed blessing. But the tech is so good. Replay is only allowed to get involved if there is a line or a clock involved. There are times any honest white hat would tell you it would be so nice to tell replay have a look — you get a giant human being step in front of you at the split second that the moment of truth relative to a foul occurs. I am of the opinion if you have the tech use it. There are shall we say creative ways to do it. The headsets we wear are sometimes like listening to Kennedy ATC at rush hour. You have the RO in the stadium.
, the command center, and a communicator all in your ear. Sorting it out takes time.

White hats know the ultimate untenable position is trying to get it right with the TV time pressures breathing down your back.

As a fan, what would you like to see?

In a booth review they said he stepped out of bounds at the 3 yard line.

Roughing the passer calls are crazy. Also intentional grounding. If the Defense touches the QB, it's roughing the passer - intentional grounding non call on Hurts was stupid, it was intentional grounding. His so called receiver was 5 yards away from the ball.

At least Jordan Love is getting into a groove for my Packers...
