Hi all. Yes I am still lurking around. :)

I just wanted to comment on something that happened today.

I was doing my weekly grocery shopping, when I noticed an elderly hispanic gentleman kinda shuffling through the produce dept at first. then later I would see him in different aisles, and at one time I noticed him eating something, furtively. It reminded me that on one of these threads here on FR talk about ppl openly eating in the grocery stores. I wondered at the time if I should report him, coz I think it was an apple from the produce dept. But I decided not to bother.

Later, I was looking for some ritz crackers, and saw a box that had been opened and I assume someone took some outta that box and ate them.

So although I am pretty isolated, it looks like things I am reading about on FR are actually in my area also. Sad

It’s a dilemma, huh?
Poor old guy, maybe he was just really hungry?
Nice to see you, Chani!

I am back at my overseas home, yes. I am feeling fine. I can now explain a bit of what happened in October-November. This next is long. Ignore if you wish.

I know that many have strong opinions against “ghosting” someone. “Ghosting” is the practice of becoming silent online with another person, not responding to their texts, or even answering the phone when they know it is that person. I want to speak to the positive side of ghosting.

I tend to absorb a person’s drama and emotions and even escalate the stresses. That is what happened to me in late September. Someone sent me an email alerting me to what they saw as a need. Actually, several bits of drama. That created a very real pain in my stomach. I couldn’t sleep. I had tension headaches. I physically reflected what they described.

However, when I arrived in Alabama, I learned that one of the situations is not quite as bad as was painted. The other situation is as bad as all that; perhaps it is even worse. It also doesn’t involve me. There is absolutely nothing I can do to mitigate the second situation. I can only observe it unfold. But, I do not need to be drawn into it.

While at home, I watched and evaluated what was happening. One thing I did learn was that the person described to me as “needing my help and not able to function w/o me being there” was not at all in that condition. My correspondent did tell me her assessment, but it was from her viewpoint alone.

Finally, however, as it became time for me to leave, she wrote another email. I began experiencing the same physical responses. I also went to others and asked for their assessments and advice.

In the end, while the letter writer operated out of a sense of duty, love, and concern, I reject her conclusions. I also can’t change the situation at all. The person she was alerting me to has chosen their course of action. We may not agree, but it is their life. So, I have backed off.

I, however, do NOT AT ALL need to experience any more drama. I over-react. But, I also do not need to confront and explain. I may say something I would regret later. Words cannot be wholly recalled. So, I have ghosted that person. Hopefully, in the future, I will be more under control myself and will be able to re-establish the connection. For the nonce, I have cut off communication.

Hi Chani!

I don’t know what I’d do. That’s a tough call. There’s people like him who are hungry, then you get the other crowd who like to open up the ice-cream, lick it, and close it up again. That’s a pretty disgusting prank, when one considers how many diseases they could be spreading!

I think I’m understanding what you mean. Sometimes you have to make these decisions for your own good. You’re a wise lady!

So did you wind up making that trip to Alabama needlessly? Or were you going home for a visit anyway?

Not at all needlessly. I need to see my hematologist every so often. He says 6 - 9 mos, so I go annually! Ha! I received a clean bill of health. That officially marks 5 years cancer free. July 11 actually is the date the doc pronounced, “I can’t see any more cancer in your blood.” But it wasn’t “official” until after I actually had it confirmed.

I had planned extra weeks there just in case I needed some medicine. PTL, that was not the necessary. The rest of the time I spent advising my Dad on his book, getting his 4 computers speaking to each other again, making sure his affairs are in order (I was being nosey but also at least one sibling wanted to know this, too), and working to pay for my food while there. I made friends at the work and hope to do it again. It was a very good time in the US.

I got out of there just as the weather was turning cold. The whole thing did wear me out, though. I got back on a Saturday morning. I went to bed about 0900 and slept through until 0730 the next morning. Then, a day or two later, I lay down for a nap at 1500 and didn’t get up until 0430 the next day. Yes, I did have potty breaks but I slept-walked through them! I was very tired.

AND, the boys go home tomorrow. Won’t have them again until next year!

Well said!
God, as you well know, tells us to pray! And if He leads us in certain directions, He will equip
The outcomes belong to Him

We can’t fix everyone or every situation, and shouldn’t…….We sometimes take on needless burdens.

If I’m reading you correctly, I’m very much like that….I want to help, to fix things!
But I’m learning to let go….and let God

I believe there are ‘toxic’ people that we are wise to encounter minimally, or not at all

Thank you for your reinforcement. I value your opinion immensely. I hate cutting someone off, and I’m not permanently, just until this present stress is ended.

Yep!
I saw a woman open a bag of grapes, reach in and sample

Yeah I know grapes can be washed……but eww what if she’s carrying diseases or hasn’t washed her hands in a blue moon!

I don’t buy stuff unless it’s sealed

Good morning lysie. I couldn’t sleep so I am the first one to see your delicious breakfast.

I am going to go and try to sleep now so I will leave it for someone else.
