When you don't forgive someone and hold something in anger, over time, you become exactly like the person you hate. That is because you are so focussed on the hurt and pain they caused you, you internalize it.

A little off topic...
A freeper asked me (quite a few years ago) what I would make for a sign for PRO Troop Rally in D.C.
I saw this bumper sticker a LONG time ago, but it it one that I wish I had when we were in the PGR.
It said”

They used it on their sign and it got thumbs up from everybody there!

I too had a father who was not a nice person. Even with all he did to me I never hated him, nor did I distance myself from him.
In reading your life story it appears to me you left/abandoned your father, so eventually to make admends, you were the one to forgive.
In the case of my brother, I don’t hate him, but because he is the one who said he didn’t want anything to do with me I take him at his word. I won’t break that boundry he set until he apologizes and says he didn’t mean it.
He abandoned the whole family for 13yrs one time. It was me who located him and got us back together. I don’t expect an out and out apology from him as I know he is not the type of person who would do that. All he would have to do is e-mail me or call on the phone and just talk about things in our lives. The only thing he has done since, is e-mail me the link to the copy of Trumps indictment. IMO the only reason for him to do that is to rub it in further.

Spunky, I hate to say it, but your brother could have an advanced case of TDS. It’s got all of the markings of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
I am being completely serious. When people are so deeply attached to their hatred for Trump, all logic and reason goes out the window. TDS has sliced through many families. I am so sorry your brother caught it. If he’s always been a bit of an emotional person, I am sure my diagnosis fits.
Not much you can do, other than pray and maybe drop him the odd email just to tell him you still think about him, if you’re comfortable doing that. It’s a real thing. A sickness.

That’s like a month or so ago when a delegation from Colima, Mexico came and I saw a pickup with the Mexican flag on the back end. That was up my way so I don’t know how many would have been flying downtown where the program was held. They are saying Colima is our “Sister City, because that is where most of the Mexican’s in my town come from.
I sincerely doubt when we send people to Colima that they will be flying our American flag there. Same goes for flying our flag in China. This is so wrong.
I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. IIRC it is your back? Have you had surgery done on it or have you considered surgery? Unfortunately I have heard from several people who have had surgery and it hasn’t helped. :-(

Yes I do believe he has TDS, but that only came on after Trump became a Republican. He told me one time he and his wife watched The Apprentice.

I wasn't abandoned by him, we still attended family gatherings. We just didn't get along, not arguing just not a warm relationship like my brother and sisters. So, ya, kind of abandoned, life wasn't easy, he was a hard worker and built houses, that took most all of his time and worries. Thanks for sharing your story too. It is best to make peace if you can and not give back tit for tat.

Articles of Confederation are approved
On This Day in history, November 15, 1777, the Articles of Confederation are approved by the Continental Congress for distribution to the states. All 13 states would have to ratify the Articles in order for them to become the first governing document of the new United States of America.
A Confederation of states was first called for in Congress on June 7, 1776 by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia when he submitted what became known as the “Lee Resolution.” The Resolution called for three things, 1) a declaration of independence from Great Britain, 2) that foreign alliances should be sought and 3) that a plan of confederation between the colonies should be prepared.
On June 12, 1776, one day after appointing a committee to prepare a declaration of independence from Great Britain, Congress also created a committee to prepare a plan of confederation between the states. The committee, chaired by John Dickinson of Pennsylvania, submitted its plan to Congress one month later. Congress then began a long and tedious process of debating the final form of the Confederation that lasted an entire year. The final form of the Articles was determined during the summer of 1777 and the final document was approved on November 15 for distribution to the states. Three and half years later, the final state approved the Articles and it became law on March 1, 1781.
The Articles of Confederation created a weak central government due to fears of creating another too-powerful government like the one they had just overthrown. They are the source of the name “the United States of America.” The Articles created a single body where each state had one vote. Changes to the Articles had to be agreed upon unanimously in order to become law. Congress had power to declare war, establish foreign treaties, settle disputes between the states and to settle maritime disputes.
The Articles did not, however, give Congress authority to tax, to control commerce between the states or even to compel its own members to attend sessions. These weaknesses made it virtually impossible for the new federal government to function and before long, calls were made for a new convention to create a new Constitution. The Articles lasted until March 4, 1789 when it was replaced with the United States Constitution.
