Daughter #2, while she wants to learn to handle a handgun safely, said yesterday, "I do think it should be harder for people to buy guns." I didn't pound on 2A because that's not what works with her. Any suggestions on sources for her to get comfortable with "shall not be infringed"?
Tell her to imagine her least favorite politician in charge of deciding who should have a gun. Suppose it’s a pro-life conservative who decides that anyone who gets an abortion is mentally unstable, and mentally unstable people shouldn’t have guns? Suppose a woman with a violent ex-boyfriend is trying to get a gun for self-protection, but she’s had an abortion, so she’s “unstable.” (Something along those lines, maybe.)
Ask her if Hamas was outside her house about to enter and rape and murder and torture, would she use a gun to defend herself or submit to certain painful torture?

Or prefer to wait for the police?
“The government doesn’t punish crime and your only hope is to defend yourself.”
For me, any discussion of the core concept of the Second Amendment should be paired with the core concept of the First Amendment —
“We should make it harder for people to voice political opinions.”
“We should make it harder for people to express religious faith.”
Do those statements seem like tyranny? Well, about that gun thing ...
What more that permission from the government should we get every time we wish to exercise a right? Why do we even need permission from the government to exercise a right? What laws would prevent criminals from obtaining guns?
Ask her questions rather than argue the opposite. Make her defend her idea; ask her to describe the process she has in mind. She’s the one who must produce the argument. Then you have something to work with.
Don’t be defensive; go on the offensive. Make her think.
Tell her to sleep in the front yard on a Friday night. Get rid of the fences and locks. Leave the car door open.
This answer should be simple.
The author Julia Cameron (ex wife of director Martin Scorcese) suffered from mental problems and alcoholism most of her life. In her biography Floor Sample she wrote about having a mental episode in which she was helpless, wandering outside in the city.
A black man came up to her, saw her condition and grabbed her. She thought he looked like someone she knew who was nice and she imagined he might be nice, too. He wasn’t. As he started to rape her he wanted to inflict a lot of pain on her despite the fact she couldn’t even fight back.
To young women: Everyone is not friendly and a pal like your friends are. They’re not trustworthy and honest.
Get a gun and a carry permit.
“When seconds count, the police are minutes away.”
However, that isn’t why the 2A was created. The 2A is necessary as a bulwark against tyranny.
I don’t know your daughter, or if either of those two work. Good luck!
It should be easier to investigate mentally ill people. People who cannot hold onto a job, who develop drug and alcohol problems, who break laws, and are abusive should be subject to a hearing.
“Back then we had mental hospitals fully staffed and society was still very Christian Principled with respect for life.”
In a few cases, staff could earn extra money pimping out female patients. Prior to the 1960s, mental hospitals had a reputation for being cruel and inhumane.
“The most damning indictment of the failures of Byberry and similar institutions appeared in the work of pioneering journalist and reformer Albert Q. Deutsch in his 1948 book, The Shame of the States.”

You are retired JAG and an attorney. It should be easy for you to argue this.
But try this - start with the other 9 Amendments and ask her if it should be harder or easier to for the Government to infringe upon those enumerated rights.
Then ask her to define “inalienable”.
Shani would have loved to have been able to have a gun that morning.............
Like it used to be, before the Obeyme regime came along.
“Would it make you feel any better, little girl, if they was pushed out of windows?”
Ask her to explain exactly what “shall not be infringed” means.
“Just tell her that it’s already extremely difficult for law-abiding citizens to buy guns, but for a criminal it’s a breeze....................”
Why is it extremely difficult for you?
Or, turn off the router. ;-). (I’ve done that. Their world ends when you do that).
Exactly.
