What were the best TV shows?
The Past | 10/24/23

My three favorites, "I Love Lucy". "Star Trek", and "Lost in Space", with a special mention to "Green Acres"

I would agree with you. If heaven contains everything good, everything our hearts could desire, all the love we have known and the presence of those who have loved us; would there be a huge hole there if our closest companions were excluded?

To paraphrase from that show, “If my dog ain’t welcome, then I suppose I will just find somewhere else”.

We just started watching Mayor of Kingstown...a pretty brutal prison town series.
Anybody that likes the Sopranos etc should check it out.

Oh yeah. I this point I just consider all of the Tyler Sheridan shows 1. Yellowstone, Kingstown, Tulsa. I think there’s another one coming next month. They’re all bleak, kinda depressing, about people who really aren’t good, and also highly addictive.

The number of absolute old folks on this thread is scary.

I am surprised that Fibber McGee and Molly are higher up the list.

Don’t forget Hee Haw...

There were some epic bluegrass jams up in there.

I agree. Firefly was one of the greatest shows ever, canceled far too early.

Nobody mentioned THE JACK BENNY SHOW, which was great, and also began on radio, nor Burns & Allen, which did likewise.

And yes, FR has a LOT of older people posting still, who were lucky enough to see, as kids, the GOLDEN DAYS of T.V.!

Thanks for the post, good suggestions. Instead of binge watching, I play Civ 5. Thanks to the modding community, tens of thousands of mods are available to play.

“Lost in Space” was horrible. Every episode was Dr. Smith doing something stupid. Ugh.

TV got better in the 90s and 00s with “The Sopranos,” “The Wire,” “Breaking Bad,” and “Game of Thrones.” Now it’s not so good again.

The 60s/70s shows that I watched and enjoyed weren’t necessarily very good — mostly sitcoms. If you’re looking for quality TV there was “The Twilight Zone,” and “Outer Limits.” “Star Trek” definitely deserves a mention. Some of the early 60s dramas and westerns may have been very good, but I didn’t watch them.

The Eighties had “Hill Street Blues,” “St. Elsewhere,” “Miami Vice” and of course, “Seinfeld.”

I thought it would be fun to binge watch Hill Street Blues. (Just finished NYPD Blue.) But you have to rent or buy, and iWon’t do that.

That scene appears unbidden in my head on a semi-regular basis due to the unusual order I get dressed. Archie would have seized up and popped.
