Should women be banned from the armed forces? If so, why? ["inherent biological differences...the biggest factor is our biological programming to be protective of women"]
quora.com ^ | Jan 6, 2023 | Beni Habzay Former [Isreali] Infantry soldier

Yes! And I [the author] say this as someone who served in an army that boasts about its female soldiers.

So I hope that even if you disagree with me, you'll bear with me and read till the end…

FACT TIME

* The Israeli defense forces stopped using actual female combat soldiers after 1948. This was when they noticed that coed combat units suffered close to 50% higher casualty rates than all male units, and were worlds less effective when it came to mission completion.

* Due to this fact, women were barred from all combat roles in the IDF until several co-ed units were created in 1990 at the behest of progressive politicians.

* The remaining co-ed infantry units in the IDF are purely ornamental.

The males who joined these units join them because they couldn't cut it to be in the regular combat units, the females who join these units are the cream of the crop and still are outperformed by the substandard males.

I could go on and on about the inherent biological differences making men stronger and more durable than women, but at the end of the day, the biggest factor is our biological programming to be protective of women, not the fact that we can lift more than they do.

If a tribe or a village loses half its male population in a war, they can bounce back. But if that same tribe or village loses half of their female population, then they will not survive the next generation. I would even make the case that man's desire to protect his mother, his wife, his children and grandchildren born and unborn; are our biggest driving factors for putting ourselves out there and doing it dangerous job because it needs to be done.

My niece served as an Army nurse in Iraq. She came home with PTSD from the carnage she saw. Got married to another vet and had children. She has been way too protective of those kids, although that is subsiding, as her husband moderates those overly protective impulses.
There are some things a mother, or future mother, shouldn’t see. She needs to have peace, love and sunshine on her mind, not horrific nightmares. For the good of her children.
I would be very careful about how and where our young women serve their country.

my brothers taught me how to fight.

"Brothers (plural) what are they today?

While in 1800 US women on average had 7 children had her first child around the age of 23 and proceeded to bear children at two-year intervals until her early 40s (more of whom died before reaching adulthood than now), and in the baby boom era the average was 3.6 kids (where children made up 36 percent, vs. 22:% now), yet by 2021 it was 1.6.6, and with the median age for giving birth hitting an unprecedented age 30.

Usually meaning women working outside the home, and more money to spend on meals outside the home thus less cooking (besides more spoiled kids, who have no or maybe just one sibling to learn how to get along with and share, thus more being unduly fearful and intolerant of others).

That being said, there is no way I would ever want to do hand to hand combat with someone like my husband. One punch from him would unquestionably dislocate my jaw (no, my husband has never raised a hand to me. He is a loving protector). Even at peak physical strength, I paled in comparison. For example, when we moved, he could easily pick up in his arms something that I would need to use my back and legs for. My husband and I had a similar conversation today Men do not fight for abstract notions like “democracy.” They fight to protect their families. With so many women screaming about how they hate men and don’t need them, is it any surprise that men are turning away when they see a woman getting attacked? Handle it yourself, Boss Babe. Anything that damages mission readiness and unit cohesion should be removed from our armed forces. Units should not be co-mingled. If the men are spending more time babysitting the women instead of completing the objective, that is a recipe for failure

Lot's of common sense in this thread, thank God.

Wrong question.

The issue is, Should women be allowed into the combat arms MOSs?

No. And they shouldn’t be on a navy ship either.

Military hopefuls should be judged on merit only. Period.

That is a key part, as it means both integrity and functionality, but even in civilian life, there is the personality compatibility aspect as part of a team. The PC elite enforce that as regards the wrong ideology.

See post 26, this question is now 50 years out of date, they got into the (general) military 50 years ago and ruined it and made it increasingly ineffective.

People still respond to this as though all their arguments for females in the military were not already destroyed and exposed since it became a reality so many years ago.

PTSD pensions, injuries, and disability pensions, the VA hospital system.

Females are vastly more likely to collect all those and overwhelm the VA because they suffer PTSD at a much higher rate, and not from being in combat but merely from the military life and living among males.

Injuries? The female body is not made for marching, packs, and the physical activity so they start lining up for the pensions in basic training, and their percentage of injuries is astronomical.

The VA? Women and their love for doctors, visits, and constant health attention are taking over the VA system.

Neither sex was designed for war. Neither mind can fathom the horrors. But we can wield the axe, the spear and mace.

Only in the Bible’s prophecies of an ending of all the madness can we live in unison and practice fully the gifts which God gave male and female.

In my lifetime I’ve seen nothing but blood and war. There’s too much Hollywood in women warriors. They exist but in such small numbers as to be almost insignificant. But for soldiers to win a war there are many jobs and some women are better suited in their dexterity. All this to say, I pray for peace, for days we can again be appreciative and laugh at one another’s strengths and weaknesses. This exists only in peacetime away from the machinations of war.

its simple, women carry grudges . forever. And they cannot separate work from personal issued. they are all too emotional to function under stressful conditions. health reasons, - they stink for 1 week a month. theres no cohesion in a mixed gender company. a guy cant hall off and fight a woman. shed lose 999/1000 fights. then hold a grudge and would frag a guy a year later.

No, the armed forces should be primarily women. Diversity is our strength.

You forgot your /sarcasm tag. But actually the Left thinks the armed forces should be primarily gender neutral, as such proxy servants of the devil work to transition this nation increasingly into a United States of Sodom with its Wokeducation goals, and with a "Wokelitary" to defend it,

Thus,

Also, last I saw, More Than 75% Of Americans Aged 17-24 Aren’t Fit For Military Service: (DOD) 77% of Americans in the above age group could not physically qualify to enter the armed forces – a 6% increase from 2017..CDC statistics also show that 19 percent of active-duty service members suffered from obesity in 2020, which is up from 16 percent in 2015. A U.S. Army general bluntly said that young Americans are either too obese, too sick, or too criminal to serve in the military. we have are obesity, we have pre-existing medical conditions, we have behavioral health problems, we have criminality, people with felonies, and we have drug use,” Lt. Gen. Xavier Brunson told The Spokesman-Review of Spokane, Washington.

And the Army dropped grenade throwing as a requirement to graduate because new recruits could not throw far enough. “We are finding that there are a large number of trainees that come in that quite frankly just physically don’t have the capacity to throw a hand grenade 20 to 25 [82 feet] to 30 meters."

Consistent with such, physical fitness assessment failures being now scrubbed from sailors’ records, a clean slate that will allow them to remain in the service,

and with lower fitness standards for women in the Army,

while nearly half of female soldiers are still failing the new Army Fitness Test,

Also, there is the Intellectual Decline of the Army Officer Corps. The size of the U.S. military in 2017 was half of what it was in 1990, and in general I think many signed up for the benefits rather than patriotism. 16% were women and racial and ethnic minorities made up 43%, and a poll from the Military Times and Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families conducted in July 2020, 49.9 percent of 1,018 active-duty military respondents had an unfavorable view of the president, compared to about 38 percent who had a favorable view. That poll showed Biden with a 4-percentage-point lead over Trump

Realism just entered the chat.

Not even a populist president like Trump is going to be able to put the genie back into the bottle absent a MAJOR change in American culture. We may want a 2% women in the military— but it’s not happening. Our aim should be on what is realistic. We are not going to be able to return to an America 50 years ago.

However, with the data the US Marines developed in their Warfighting laboratory, a Commander in Chief can restrict women to only non-combat MOSs, and remove them from operational-level combat commands.

That will limit them to strategic and garrison duties.

It’s reality. It is politically untenable to go to a 2% female military without making the case for females to return to their traditional roles. It is what it is.
