This is an ongoing thread – meaning come back to chat, post information, or ask questions any time. Hopefully the thread won’t stagnate and I’ll do better at posting weekly (or bi-weekly) topics than I have in the past. (anyone willing to post a topic now and then we'll be highly praised and appreciated).
We are in for some bumpy rides, and prepping can only help. If for peace of mind, if nothing else. We have a wonderful gardening thread and a current-events survival/prepping thread, and hopefully this one can piggyback off of those, maybe having a longer discussion about certain topics or … whatever. It's your thread, do what you like with it! (civilly, of course)
Here are granny’s threads, if anyone wants to peruse them:

War Rumors Raging
h/t to metmom

War begins in each individual, the Apostle James reveals:
“From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not” (James 4:1-2).
The fallen nature, which came when sin was introduced to humanity, started a war that rages to this day and is intensifying by the minute, according to the hourly news reports that constantly bombard us.
Threats of war ebb and flow and reach, at times, the very brink of exploding into full-blown nuclear devastation. But that hasn’t happened to this point.
Those of my age remember the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 in which the US and Soviet Union faced off. I certainly remember that, as a 20-year-old, there was genuine fear, even by those of us so young at the time.
Sounder thinking prevailed, and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and US President John F. Kennedy pulled back from that fatal moment when the Doomsday Clock must have been one second from midnight.
Or did they?
Did these leaders of the enslaved and of the free world save the planet to fight instead in a thousand conventional conflicts into the future?
Or did physical salvation of everyone on the planet come from another source?
To answer His disciples’ question—“What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the world (age)?”—Jesus said:
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet” (Matthew 24:6).
I can’t remember when fear of world war has been more prevalent than in this present hour. The fear is being expressed not so much by average people of the world but within the highest echelons of world diplomacy. The following somewhat puts this all into perspective.

“I have had to give away a lot of MRE’s because I typically buy them several years date exp and before you know it they are looking pretty old. Back when they were $4 or $5 each it wasn’t too painful but at today’s prices it is serious money.”
good grief, how much are they now?
I have a few and they are probably ready to throw out as well. I don’t typically put things in my food storage that I wouldn’t use daily. Whenever I go look for something to make, those don’t usually stand out lol! But I know they will be invaluable when time and food prepping is limited
They are about $140 for a case of 12 (military MRE). The best prep of all is having a diesel vehicle. Diesel never runs out because there are 40 million fuel oil tanks in the US so when the gas stations close after 24 hours and the electric goes off, diesel is still running. And, unlike gasoline you can safely store it in 15 gallon pails.
Does diesel last indefinitely?
Pretty much. One can add a little stabilizer. But people use a fuel oil tank in a lodge or cabin for decades without doing anything. And, diesel is safe to pump with a little hand pump or a battery operated one, unlike gasoline.
When the SHTF there is no gasoline in hours.
I remembered one of them - gas or diesel - would last. Our neighbor in the Sierras had a huge diesel tank underground.
Unfortunately or fortunately, we moved from the increasingly-liberal state. I miss the mountains and the Reagan library and my son.
But the crazy locals here in East Tennesee will do much better if there’s any type of collapse or violence.
thanks for the info! I must quietly encourage hubby to do more storing of diesel.
Years ago, I searched for an abandoned coal shaft mine in East TN as the ultimate hide out but they are concealed both physically and publicly. Now I’m too old to care enough to hide.
From the internet -
Saponaria seeds can be sown either indoors or directly outdoors. For indoor sowing, the Saponaria Soapwort seeds germinates better after a cold treatment. Dampen a paper towel, place the seed on the towel and roll it up. Place the damp towel with the seeds into a ziploc bag and place it in the refrigerator for 4 weeks.
THAT may have been the problem.
I know other seeds need cold treatment. I’ll pick some up and do that.
THANKS!
I don’t know what those seeds look like, but some seeds also need scoring with a sharp blade, just to make a thick covering open more easily. I have done this in the past with morning glory seeds.
I knew about morning glory seeds.
I don’t recall how big the soapwort seeds are.
Thank you for that information, and please forgive me for not responding sooner. My husband passed away in January, and I’m not sure if I’m going or coming. As he would have said, I don’t know if I’m batting or catching.
Does anyone know how to make shredded wheat? I know how to grind wheat. I know how to mill wheat. I have no idea how to shred wheat. I want to make home made Triscuits.
The store bought ones have canola oil and seed oils are not the healthiest thing for you. So, home made, but how do you shred the wheat? Without a million dollar machine that is.

12 things that are unbelievable Standalone but terrifying all together. Prep everybody!
h/t metmom, ty!!
I tried googling it.
It doesn’t look possible without special equipment,
You can make homemade triscuits using shredded wheat and seasoning them, but as far as making the shredded wheat itself, it doesn’t look feasible.
My neighbors grow the wheat used but even they do not know how to shred the wheat. One remembers his great grandmother having some sort of press thing that would do it but that is it. He does not even remember if it was a commercial product or something his great grandfather made.
“Now I’m too old to care enough to hide.”
LOL.
I think that’s where I am. When I hear about getting together bug out bags and figure out safe passageways, I think forget it, I’ll just stay here and see what happens. I thought that would be a good plan until the forest fires started. We are right in the middle of the Cherokee National forest.
Cherokee National Forest.
Heaven. You could hide a houseboat in one of those big lakes north of you and no one would ever find you.
U.N. ‘secretly working with banks’ to destroy American food industry
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4215698/posts
WND reported just days ago on a video that showed empty stores in France, where a climate agenda threatened the production processes for farmers, and they more or less staged a strike.
And just recently, in Germany, farmers blocked highways in protest over costly and unnecessary agriculture policies.
Now, however, there’s a new campaign against farmers, in which the United Nations works with banks to debank the food producers, closing their accounts and not allowing them to operate their businesses.
The report is from NewsAddicts, which explained officials from 12 U.S. states have sounded an alarm after finding out the “unelected globalist United Nations is secretly working with banks to destroy the American farming industry.”
The report explained the banks use the U.N.’s “Marxist ‘environmental, social, and corporate governance’ (ESG) criteria to score and penalize farmers.”
They found that those farmers not sufficiently “woke,” that is, using methods and processes that are not ESG-approved, have their accounts shut down without notice, the report said.
The report charged, “The plot seeks to throttle the agriculture industry to eliminate all those who fail to comply with the globalist ‘Net Zero’ agenda of the World Economic Forum (WEF)…”
