(The Center Square) - New Jersey will require car manufacturers to ramp up sales of electric vehicles leading to a ban on the sale of new fossil fuel-powered vehicles by 2035 under new rules proposed by Gov. Phil Murphy.
Murphy announced on Monday that he has filed the Advanced Clean Cars II proposal with the Office of Administrative Law that would, if approved, require vehicle manufacturers to make zero-emission vehicles an increasing percentage of their new light-duty vehicle sales, ramping up to 100% of vehicle sales by 2035.
By doing so, New Jersey joins New York, California and the European Union in banning new gas vehicle sales by 2035.
Murphy called the move a "commitment to every New Jersey family and the air they breathe" and said it "recognizes that New Jersey is just one crucial piece of our global response to climate change."
Murphy claims the new mandate won't impose any obligations on consumers or car dealers and provides "compliance flexibilities" for manufacturers, including a credit trading mechanism.
He has also signed New Jersey on to the Accelerating to Zero Coalition’s Zero Emission Vehicle Declaration, a global pact that will commit the state to a zero-emission vehicle future.
The Murphy administration says it has allocated $75 million to help meet demand for installation of EV charging stations at businesses, multi-unit residential buildings and public locations.
"As New Jersey continues experiencing the adverse impacts of climate change, we have the power and obligation to reduce its effects by limiting the emissions of climate pollutants," Shawn M. LaTourette, the state's environmental protection commissioner. said in a statement. “Through the adoption of zero-emissions vehicle standards, New Jersey can reduce its greatest source of climate damaging emissions, improve air quality and public health, and support a growing cleantech marketplace that will create...

The Religious Left.
New Jersey is a silly country that doesn’t align with my values. That’s why I don’t live there.
My country much more aligns with my values. It’s why I moved there. Life is much better when you live in a country that aligns with your values.
It might, but then the state can just increase the registration fee for out of state vehicles to something outrageous. I think California has some version of that tactic.
Speaking of Buc’ees...

But, yes, you have to buy an EV.”
Why doesn’t the state of NJ (and others as well) forget this stupid & dead end idea of EVs, get back to ICE vehicles & do every motorist a big favor. Sales of EVs should tell them something. It’s way past time when when some of our “educated” politicians went back to school & learned something on the second time around.
Not only are the governors ignorant about EVs, they don’t seem to know much about running a state either.
Thanks for posting, that was HILARIOUS!
Enjoy the collapse.
They voted for suicide.
They can mandate all they want— people will NOT buy EVs— they are way too expensive, a lousy investment, and are now shown to be impossible to put in a junkyard, because of environmental impact of the batteries burned or otherwise. Lithium is a poison. The cars cannot be maintained under any kind of possible financial set up. Period. Game over. Leftist embedded Fascist/crooks lose, big league (bigly, heh)
People will go elsewhere to buy cars. But what will happen in Eviro-Fascist States is those states will refuse to register them. Then those states will hand out tickets with hefty fines on those cars. Those tickets will only go to those who can’t claim a racial or LBGT+ exemption.
Who didn’t see this coming?
Back in the 90s, I was building/servicing gas stations.
One day I was working on an stp at the tank. This lady comes over and tells me I have to dispense gas for her as it was my duty. She said she was from jersey and didn’t know how.
I rolled my eyes and sighed, but I climbed out and went over and showed her how. I almost held out my hand for a tip....
Government squandering gazillions of our money and all for naught. Just one of a million crimes.
I did indeed notice that generators are going away. I live in Florida where, every time nature burps, we lose power. I have a generator in a special building already wired. I can switch over the power box in five minutes to accept only power from the generator. There have been storms where I had no power for several weeks. You can’t live in a mobile home without power. It’s like living in a toaster oven. (I have a window unit air conditioner I can install if needed. It will run off the generator along with the refrigerator.)
BTW, I think we need a Trump-like president. We need to get rid of a few governmental organizations, like the EPA, Education, FBI, etc. Not that these things were not good ideas at the time. But like any organization, they get coopted over time to serve the functions of the anti-human groups.
Yea!Make electrically powered vehicles mandatory when the states don’t even have enough power generation capacity to keep the lights on during winter.
This is going to be a catastrophe because windmills and solar power will not make the grade.
People would probably be better off with bicycles.
When are the People going to stand up and fight against these environmental nazi’s and kick them out of office?
