A Newfield High School football player has been taken off life support after he collapsed during a summer workout.
Robert Bush, 17, suffered sudden cardiac arrest after a 4-minute conditioning drill on July 3. His teammates and coach desperately tried to save him when he collapsed on the field.
"We're at the beginning of the final stages of my brother," said Steven Bush. "We haven't said our goodbyes, but that's what we are preparing to do, talk about organ donation."
Robert's family says he was taken off life support Friday night so that his organs could be donated.
The grieving family is getting love and support from the community in Selden.

It's unknown if Robert has a heredity condition. He was adopted at birth into the Bush family and is among 10 of their children and 300 foster children.
"Did you ever see the movie 'Rudy'? That's him," said Christopher Bush about his brother.
Robert's teammates visited him in the hospital.
"You don't realize how much a community can come together until you see it firsthand," said Christopher.
There are lingering questions about how much time passed before Robert's heart was shocked by a defibrillator. Were AEDs accessible and on the field?
The Bush family asked why summer sports programs don't have the same safety requirements as in-season practices and games.
"As an athletic trainer myself, we've got to make sure we are advocating for medical professionals for these kids. Practice, conditioning, it doesn't matter. Someone needs to be there. Could have made the difference," said Joshua Bush, Robert's cousin.

Sad.
We just have to ask that question.
Too close to home for me in many regards.
Prayers for his family
I keep wondering if these - young people in sports, critical health - incidents been increasing (since Covid) or is it just the reporing of them that has increased???
That dust cloud you see in the distance is the vax conspiracy kooks stampeding to get here and start posting
You death-obsessed freepers are weird to me. It’s as if no teenagers died prior to 2020. The constant posting of death articles is very strange.
It seems an apologist kicks up as much dust...
It’s difficult to know without doing a good amount of research.
I was discussing this on an earlier thread about train derailments. It seems there aren’t more, just more prevalent reporting occurring.
I read that sudden deaths have actually gone way down since the start of COVID vaxes, and even more so for young adults.
Cardiac arrest under training & game conditions can happen for many reasons besides the vaxx (which I despise as administered to children and young adults). Not enough rest, being over caffeinated, OTC drugs, etc. along with intense exertion during hot weather can be a deadly combination. But prior to the vaxx, such events were many years apart.
Maybe an undetected heart or unknown condition...
Same thing happens in the military, and although infrequent, it is not unusual. Young people going through high stress physical environments simply succumb to the ordeal...despite all the pre-service medical examinations. Many times, the deceased is simply found dead in their bunks, with no apparent cause. Kind of like a crib death.
As a Patriot Guard Rider, I have helped escort many active duty who have died this way. Very sad.
We just have to ask that question.

Yep. He died of Suddenly.
How is that even possible?
Is their home an orphanage?
Just one link please?
vaxed or unvaxed still sad
“He was adopted at birth into the Bush family and is among 10 of their children and 300 foster children.”
That’s a big “family.” More like an institution than a family, but sounds like a noble thing to do. Too bad about the boy.
Why you trying to burst the bubble of anti-vaxxers, with facts? Those people have deep psychosis of paranoia. Leave them alone.
Yes. They are people who get paid by the state to do short tern and long term care of children.
