Homeowner posts video of pizza delivery guy complaining about a 25% tip on a $20 order.... so how much would YOU tip?

A woman in Texas shared a doorbell camera interaction between herself and a pizza delivery man who was so dissatisfied with his $5 tip that he cursed her out.

In a video posted to her TikTok, Lacey Purciful asked: 'So how much should I be tipping for a $20 Pie??' implying that she had given her delivery driver a 25 percent tip on a $20 order.

In the video, captured by the family's Vivint camera, a woman answers the door as her dog runs out to greet the delivery driver.

The man, wearing khaki shorts and a dark t-shirt, pulls the pizza box out of its protective box and hands it to the woman, who says 'thank you.'

The delivery man then said: 'You're welcome, um I just want to say it's a nice house for a $5 tip.'

The woman, relatively shocked by the man's comment said, 'you're welcome,' to which he responded: 'f*** you' and walked away.

Online viewers of the video, which Purciful posted to her TikTok account, were overwhelmingly supportive of the tipper in this case.

'Tipping is out of control. 5 on 20 is more than enough,' wrote one user.

Others encouraged Purciful to get in touch with Doordash, the service she had used for the delivery.

Purciful said she did contact the delivery company, which she also clarified she pays a monthly fee for, in addition to any extra service fees.

Purciful added that her husband was extremely upset about what the delivery man had said to his wife, and noted that the driver could simply have declined the order.

Other online commenters lamented the exorbitantly high cost of having anything delivered these days, and how delivery fees are likely driving down tip numbers.

According to the DoorDash website, drivers receive base pay of $2-$10+ per order depending on distance and estimated time plus any tips. So this driver earned a minimum of $7 on this order.

“SICK of what has become a tip-entitled society”

AMEN to that. The new POS terminals give you three options, 15%, 20% and 25%. Those were the choices in a simple gelato shop today! She was a nice, hard-working, patient and very pleasant high school girl, so I clicked the “15%.”

But it rankles me to no end that every simple service that never received tips before now has their hands out.

It all started with the “tip jar,” the big glass jar into which you could toss a buck.

I never do delivery folks. I always do carryout. It’s cheaper and the food is with me. These delivery drivers are eating your food.

As a Doordash driver myself , I wouldn’t even think of talking to a customer in a rude tone of voice even if the customer was rude to me. I guess I was brought up in a different time.

Is it true that Door Dash drivers only earn what they’re tipped or are they paid a small amount from DD for each order as well?

According to Greg Gutfeld, that's how most porn movies begin.

...Why would you tip the driver when they already charge a $4-5 delivery fee?

.Why would you tip the driver when they already charge a $4-5 delivery fee?”

That is a good question. The company charges a delivery fee that does not go to the driver, or for gas or insurance. So why does the company need that deliver fee? Just another way to charge more for the product.

As a Doordash driver myself ,

On the average, how many deliveries do you make in an hour?

You understand. People who have never worked in a restaurant don’t understand that a waiter is at the kitchen’s mercy.

Back in the mid 90’s, one of my good friends worked delivery for a pizza parlor near a Wake Forest University when she was also going to college. She delivered pizzas M-F, 11 am -2 pm and banked $25k in one year. She and her husband were saving for a house and all of her earnings - wages and tips- went into a separate bank account.

She did a lot of deliveries for the hospitals and college functions and they tipped well.

When I left the states 35 years ago, it was normal to give $5 - $10 (or 5% - 10%, whichever is the highest) at a restaurant (or bar) where you actually get service, and it depended on the service that was given to you (the customer).

I quite liked it in Japan, where it is practically an insult to give a tip, and EVERYWHERE they were extremely polite and gave excellent service.

It appears that they get paid a base pay per delivery more than I made hourly as a deputy sheriff... 😶

Doordash Pay

And many customers pay a monthly/yearly fee for DoorDash (and other delivery services). So, they have already paid...
It is the companies that are getting rid of the responsibility to pay the drivers.

I don’t think it is a good idea for the tip to be shown to the drivers anyway. Causes resentment.
