Garth may have thought he was staying out of the Bud Light controversy. But it looks like he just threw himself in the middle of it.
Of course by now everybody’s familiar with the controversy and backlash surrounding Bud Light’s decision to partner with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney a few months ago. The company has since faced boycotts that have caused billions of dollars in losses, and even threaten the beer’s place at the top of the year-end list of best selling beers.
And Garth Brooks, who has a new bar coming to Nashville soon, weighed in this week on some of his fellow bar owners like John Rich and Kid Rock, who have blasted Bud Light – with Rich even removing it from his lower Broadway bar, Redneck Riviera.
In a Q&A session as part of Billboard’s Country Live in Conversation, Garth explained that his bar would not be removing Bud Light from the menu – and appeared to take a shot at those boycotting the iconic beer brand:
“Yes, we’re going to serve every brand of beer. We just are. It’s not our decision to make.
If you come into this house, love one another. If you’re an a**hole, there are plenty of other places on lower Broadway.”
He continued by reiterating that he hopes his bar helps make Broadway “a country music mall” as opposed to a zoo (although if you’ve been to Broadway lately, you know that it might be too late for that).
“In my existence, one a**hole can turn the whole tide down there. My thing is, let’s create a place that you feel safe in.”
Well Garth’s comments (which were first reported right here on Whiskey Riff) haven’t gone over well on Twitter, with those who support the boycott taking offense at Garth seemingly calling them “a**holes.”
Not your decision to make?! It certainly is!
Guess where Garth can put the Bud Light
Squish...
” there are plenty of other places on lower Broadway.”
Profound words, Barf.
That jumped out at me as well. He may have been let off the hook if he said he disagrees with some of his customer’s opinions and choices, but wants everyone to be able to enjoy their favorite beer. After a couple of months he may have moved a case or two of BudLight, and can reorder accordingly. He basically called John Rich and everyone boycotting Bud, Target, KitchenAid, etc., assholes. Not a smart move....I’ll chalk it up to the usual arrogance and elitism.
He’s probably under a distribution contract.
Garth Brooks: all hat and no cattle.
I wonder if Gayth Brookth has a mirror?
How much did Bud Light pay him to say that?
While I was drunk on Bud Light
I pissed off my fans and put up a fight
Now I'm so lonely and crying like a mutt
Here's a text from Dylan promising to love on my butt
Party on, Garth!
Sez one of the guys who helped kill Country Music.
No doubt he will put on that silly cowboy hat and do a concert to benefit the centers and organizations that mutilate children in the name of transgenderism and “tolerance”. No doubt BudLight will be served.
Isn’t this the same guy that hangs out with Springsteen filming little boys at the park on Saturday mornings??
I have never been a fan of Garth Brooks. He just seemed so fake, from the very start.
Now I know my first impressions were right decades ago....................
I never liked him either! Something about him.....he did not come across as authentic at all. He’s the Mike Pence of country music.
Exactly.
He looks so fake in that damned hat................
I think he used that term to mean rowdy troublemakers, but if so, he should have just said troublemakers. This whole topic remains a scorching hot potato for anybody in the beverage industry, Garth included. You have to watch what you say.
Garth Brooks, fake phony fraud.
Now we know where his friends in LOW PLACES are....................
