I'm just frustrated. I have 2 older daughters in their 30's. I can't talk to them about any current topic. Everything I say triggers them. Today I got in a fuss defending the gallantry of Southern soldiers. Then I got in a fuss about being a culturist because I believe a substantial portion of the Black underclass in 5 times more likely to commit crimes and murder than other groups. 30 people a week shot in Chicago or New Orleans is OK but DeSantis is a racist. I just said I never see race in a competent individual. I just want to communicate with my offspring. Why are my values always wrong?
I have two sons in their 50’s. I do not talk politics with either of them. Those subjects are off the table. Neither is what I would call a liberal. They didn’t vote for Trump, and never would. The oldest son is much easier to talk to, and remains calm. I have been at his place, made comments to myself while reading FR, and he won’t say anything in response. He lets it pass. The youngest is the exact opposite when it comes to politics. He will fly off the handle very easily, and there is no way he will allow you to say anything in response, or try to explain anything to him. He doesn’t want to hear it, and chooses to remain ignorant. That’s why I don’t say anything about politics or Trump in front of them whenever I am with them.
YOUr kids have been brainwashed. Find a way to unbrainwash them.
Send them to Chicagos East side for a week, pay for a hotel.
Buy them some body armor and wish the the best.
See if they are unbrainwashed in a week.
Deprogramming is hard. The left has convinced them that they’re ‘enlightened’ and that ‘love is love’, where any other dissenting viewpoint is ‘hate’ and ‘bigotry’.
The idea that perverted behaviors are sinful and that ‘love’ isn’t always about affirmation is completely lost on them.
At least I’m sure they’re very generous, with other peoples’ money.
Ask them why gay men aren’t interested in trans-men? Isn’t it transphobic?
What sexual behaviors do they consider to be ‘sinful’?
Why should biological women surrender their private & competitive spaces to men?
Why is ‘woman face’ ok but ‘black face’ isn’t?
Why can’t I identify as a black female lesbian 5 year old?
If $15/hr won’t hurt McDonald’s and only make a burger 25c more expensive then how can you also argue that farmers MUST have access to illegal labor otherwise they’ll go out of business? You can’t argue for both.
Unless they can address all of the contradictions the left holds you can’t get through to them.

But why do we have to do this? I agree this is the only sane path but I was raised in the 60’s when free speech and airing your views was promoted. Now conservative orthodox view have to be kept in the closet while we hear about 62 genders and the dangers of white supremacy and noone has the right to define a woman.
My husband and I went to school back in the day and homeschooled our children. My husvband and I ended up conswevative and three of our children are liberal/woke.
College.
Basically, I did not realize that I had to inoculate them against these issues which didn’t exist at the time. I tried my best to raise them Catholic but I had not been so I didn’t know how to do that very well either.
But the reality is that they are adults and they will make their own decisions. I can’t talk with mine about politics either, but I ask questions when I have the chance.
All we can really do is to pray.
You are not going to change their mind, and they are not going to change yours. So why try? It's best to avoid controversial topics, but if you must, just explain why you feel a certain way and let them know it's ok if they feel differently. This country allows difference of opinion. Families should do the same.

I would visit my attorney and rewrite my will. Here in Texas a person can disinherit a person. In other states, you might have to leave them something to show you did not forget about you in your “advancing dementia”. Write a letter to the executor of your estate explaining why you disinherited them—and did not forget about them. The reason you are disinheriting them is because they rejected your American values.
If they have children, you might want to leave something more substantial to your grandchildren in trust with a trustee NOT either of your daughters. Write a letter to the trustee explaining those grandchildren who do not believe in American principles as outlined in the Declaration of Independence and in the Constitution and who do not make decisions based upon facts should have their share reduced. You might consider a clause cutting off any grandchild who attends a woke university. Be certain to define what a woke university is. If none of you grandchildren qualify to be funded by the trust, leave the amount in the trust to a charity in which you believe.
I don't bring up politics unless one of them asks.
The few times they do, I tell them straight up that whatever anybody wants to try to make me believe, they have no chance if there's no math. In a country with over 300 million people it makes no sense to get all bent out of shape over one incident and claim it's "systemic" or time for major changes or whatever --- over one incident. Even if it's played in their social media feed many times a day -- it's just one person out of 300 million and shouldn't be treated as a window of society being all bad and needing major changes. No math -- no issue. Therefore there's plenty of people in our country not party to whatever one event has everybody rattled over -- plenty of people we shouldn't have an issue with because they weren't involved in whatever's got people mad.
Needless to say, the liberals in the family hate math so they have nothing to stand on. The few times they say, "but..." they looked like idiots and the rest of the family say, "but almost the entire rest of the country didn't do it, so don't be mad at everyone over it". LOL And the few times the conservatives in our family bring up a topic, it's always either with respect to undeniable trends that need correcting (i.e. tons of teachers teaching pedo in schools, averaging 1.3 million babies aborted per year since Roe v Wade), or (when my daughter brings up politics) with respect to Dims destroying the family. And the liberals fear getting her started because she argues with a mama bear attitude. LOL
My two nieces were conservative until they went to college.
4 years later they are both SJW with pointless degrees.
Its not just you.
Do what I do. Don't make it about the issues, or the Democrats, or liberals/leftists, or even your children's or your values.
Make it about the LAAP-dog media.
Tell your kids that people are going to believe what they want, but the media is purposefully spreading misinformation to agitate and rile people up.
Tell your kids that when they read something in the news, wait 48 hours before believing it.
Tell your kids that the media has an agenda, and it's not theirs or yours. Tell your kids that the media's agenda is to sustain the elite class, which your kids are not a part of.
Tell your kids to watch the media, watch how a story spreads with one narrative only, and watch how the media all repeat it in unison.
Tell your kids that "we" are all being manipulated by a dishonest media, and that they should make an extra effort to ask why certain stories are repeated while others disappear within 48 hours.
Then step back and see what they do.

It’s too late for you to do anything. Their living in Atlanta and Seattle, two big left wing cities, will correct things. I was a liberal till I finished school and lived in Atlanta. Was an accountant and a volunteer probation officer working with juvenile delinquents, mostly black. Within a year or two could see that the disparity between races was not due to bigotry but due to genetics - cognitive ability. Your daughters will eventually realize the obvious truth.
One other thing, unless someone takes the time to study the history of the Civil War, the men who fought, and what the men who fought on both sides went through during the war, they will never be able to understand any praise of southern soldier.
I was born and raised in New York State. Still live here, but for a very long time I was a Civil War buff, and spent a lot of time researching, and traveling to the various battlefields. Met a lot of great people along the way. If I'd had to choose back then, which side to fight for, and I knew then what I know now, I'd probably fight for the South.

Did they have it too easy as kids? Did they have to hold jobs and pay for some of their own stuff (cell phones, cars, car insurance, etc.)??
Did they ever serve in the military or have close friends who did?

To be honest, I was not interested in his reasoning. Now, if he would have said, “I liked some of Trump’s ideas, and hated some. What do you think?”
That could lead to an interesting and polite discussion.
However, liberals are rarely interested in polite discussions. They want to fight. For many reasons I will not oblige them. And especially so at a family gathering.
I see value in the “soft” response in martial arts. Deflect the attack away. Don’t get into a boxing match.
