How many times each week were your girls in church?

Were they schooled at home or private school? Or public school?

What you’re doing wrong is not loving your children unconditionally.

Did the girls’ mother have a “career”, or was she home raising the kids?

Are you and your wife of the same mindset culturally and politically?

Never venture an opinion unless asked.

I'm 84 and I learned that lesson in my late 60's/early 70's.

Their mother was a stay at home mother and we faithfully attended a Bible church at least twice a week and kids were in all the church plays and made professions of faith. So your way off target. Their “woke” ideas did not emerge until they went off to the university.

"University"...AKA "reeducation camp".

There is the answer to your original question. Something like Emory, Liberty Univ., or College of the Ozarks might have been better selections. Water under the bridge now...good luck! You might have to live with the situ.

As of now I’m feeling guilty of gaslighting my girls. I love them both dearly and am extremely proud of their accomplishments. They both graduated with high honors in their fields. I just got in an acrimonious discussion with one of them this morning and reacted by posting. I’m a retired history teacher and I love the Civil War Era. I was just trying to explain that valor was found on both sides. Of course human bondage was an abomination but I believe many young southern men were fighting for land and honor and were conscripted. I absolutely do not believe southern monuments should be torn down to rewrite history. I’m going to follow some of the advice I found here and not be directly confrontational about culture and politics but I will not under any circumstances change my values to fit current culture!

Valor for an evil cause shouldn’t be celebrated. I say this as a grandson of a German ww1 veteran and a brown shirt Nazi n the 30s and 40s in stuttgart.

Like ve your children for their accomplishments and independence.

Germany had a more justifiable cause in WW1

Many of the RAF, 8th air force veterans became friends after the war. War on the retail level is quite different than on the ideological level. War itself is a cruel evil that mankind excels at

I was just asking questions trying to make sense of it. Ruling out things. You asked in your title.

I hate to tell you but it may get worse. These young kids who have been indoctrinated - don’t rely on them for any support as you get older. Your kids will be too busy taking care of their own needs.

Many of our younger generation see no need to care for or even communicate with their parents. It’s very sad. Their parents are on their own. No help. The kids don’t think it’s their problem.

“I have 2 older daughters in their 30’s.”

The way you phrase this suggests you have other children besides them. If so, how are they different?

“Everything I say triggers them.” Is it possible you talk about politics too much? If so, cool it off for the summer. Events will continue to demonstrate a world spinning out of control and your daughters may start to be disturbed by them. Force them to focus on these by taking the focus off the arguments you always get into with them.

“Today I got in a fuss defending the gallantry of Southern soldiers.” It’s better to “show” than “tell” on a topic like this. Next time they visit, pop in North and South or The Blue and the Gray into the Dvd player.

“30 people a week shot in Chicago or New Orleans is OK but DeSantis is a racist.” At the end of the summer, when go back to talking about politics, bring up something Tim Scott or Vivek Ramawhateverhisname pointed out. Or RFK, Jr. Confound your daughters by talking about points and positions you agree with held by someone other than a white male Republican.

“I just want to communicate with my offspring. Why are my values always wrong?”

The trick is to find those values you have in common and somehow connect them to important issues and current events.

You say you are a retired history teacher. Watch some movies about key female historical figures and talk about them with your daughters. For instance, see Agora. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agora_(film)

It may be too late to sell them to the circus : )
Just present facts. Some just might sink in.
I have known people who refuse facts.

Larry Elder says a fact to a liberal is like kryptonite to Superman.
