A Montgomery-based Anheuser-Busch wholesale beer distributor has taken to the airwaves to share his displeasure with the Dylan Mulvaney controversy that reportedly caused sales of Bud Light to plummet nationally.
Steve Tatum, of Montgomery-based Bama Budweiser, addresses the issue in a one-minute radio ad airing on about 10 Montgomery and Selma area radio stations.
“We too at Bama Budweiser are upset about it and have made our feelings known to the top leadership at Anheuser-Busch,” Tatum says in the ad. “The voice of the consumer has been heard, and Anheuser-Busch has taken action.”
Last month, Mulvaney, a trans social media influencer, posted an ad for Bud Light on Instagram showing a custom beer can. The video prompted a backlash among other celebrities and boycott among customers.
Earlier this month, Anheuser-Busch pledged to give a case of Bud Light to every employee of an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler. The country’s largest brewer has also pledged to boost its marketing spending on Bud Light.
According to the Wall Street Journal, in the week ending April 22, Bud Light’s U.S. retail-store sales fell 21.4% over the same period from last year. Meanwhile, sales of rival brands Coors Light and Miller Lite grew by an almost equal amount.
Bama Budweiser, in business since 1988, has two facilities in central Alabama and covers Autauga, Elmore, Montgomery, Dallas, Lowndes, Perry, Wilcox and Clarke counties.
Tatum said feedback on the ad has been completely positive, with a phone call coming from Nevada to show support. There has been no response from the corporate level, he said.
“I’m just trying to look after Bama Budweiser,” he said. “I’ve worked too hard to give it all away.”
In a one-minute radio spot, Tatum, vice president and general manager of Bama Budweiser, says:

Wow, this guy is a liar. He keeps saying one single can. I guess he doesn’t know that at least two ads were made by Mulvaney. So, he is just as bad. As AB.
What? What ad is that? Most people I know who drink Modelo are white.
You’re right. Ford isn’t cool. Ford is spending big bucks to be Hollywood trendy and thus superficial, shallow, and way wrong.
Why would nFord do an ad like that? Who are you appealing to? Do you really think any gay men are even going to buy that?
The first step that Bud Light needs to take is an abject apology to its customers. The second step is for heads to roll within the company. EVERYONE involved in this decision needs to be FIRED IMMEDIATELY, none of this “leave of absence” Bullspit. That also means no transfer to another region or division.
Just use RoundUp mixed with Diesel fuel, it'll stick better...
Is this Budweiser’s latest attempt to stop the hemoraging without apologizing to their customers? Let the distributors declare their offense at the partnership and claim they have told the company so, hoping customers will take that as an apology and Budweiser can get back to promoting evil without atoning for promoting a transvestite.
And what the }{€££ is that supposed to help with ? Can't sell the crap to anyone else so pawn off the existing stockpiles off on employees ? One lousy case on top of that !!! What a bunch of PUTZEZ...
That is exactly what is going on!
Bud Light Sales Worsening, -23.3% in Week Five of Widespread Boycott

Previously – Across the United States, wholesalers are on the hook for inventories of Bud Light and Budweiser products that no one is buying. These products have an expiration date, thanks in part to the A/B freshness campaign long ago created. The wholesalers have to swap out the close-dated products that are not being sold in retailers and restaurants. The wholesalers are then stuck with out-of-date product and turn back to the corporate office for help.
From reporting in the Wall Street Journal, Anheuser-Busch (A/B) is telling the wholesalers to give the product free to their employees rather than dump it. By law, they cannot give it away to consumers, and they cannot cross promote the beer by “bundling” alcohol with another CPG product (ie, buy chips, get free beer).
The story is being promoted as A/B being magnanimous in giving the beer to the employees; however, in reality as the product hits its expiration or sell-by date, A/B only has that option, other than to dump it in the garbage and recycle the containers.

The final step is they need to do a shitload of heavy couponing (i.e., they need to give away a lot of beer to buy their consumers back.) I’ve seen this happen in the soap and soft drink business worlds. If you don’t buy your consumers back, you may just as well kiss them good bye cuz they won’t be back.
25:11..."Yeah! I....I think number one...you know...I'm a businesswoman...I had a really clear job to do, when I took over Bud Light. And....it was...this brand is in decline, it's been in decline for a really long time. And if we do not attract...young drinkers, to come and drink this brand, there will be no future for Bud Light. So I had this super clear mandate. Like, we need to evolve and elevate, this incredibly iconic brand. And...my...what I brought to that, was a belief in...ok, what does "evolve and elevate" mean? It's means INCLUSIVTY. It means shifting the tone. It means having a campaign that's truly inclusive and feels lighter and brighter and different and appeals to women and to men. And representation is at sort of at the heart of evolution. You've got see people who reflect you, in the work. We had this hangover...I mean...Bud Light had been...kind of a brand of...fratty...kind of out of touch humor...and, it was REALLY important that we had, another approach.
>>I’d be willing to write him an effective apology for free; and it would get the job done.
Because you have a clear insight into the problem and can rationally create a solution. These people are too deep into self-deception.
10-4 !
Exactly, a corporate public apology and a public cessation of the relationship with Dylan is a prerequisite start.
