I have no sympathy for them. All chemical drugs have side effects. Those with debilitating illnesses have to decide if those side-effects are worth the good they do.

These people are looking for a miracle drug for weight loss that requires no effort on their part. They want to be able to eat what they want, exercise none, and still lose weight.

Also, the people who are taking these drugs to lose weight are creating a shortage so that those who actually need the medication often cannot find ample supplies.

My wife is a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump/continuous glucose monitor. Her doctor prescribed injectable Ozempic to help her lose weight. It works, but it not without side effects. It does curb appetite, but it also delays dumping of stomach contents. She has had a few episodes of low blood sugar between 45 and 55. She consumed glucose to increase her blood sugar to a safer level. The sugar just sat in her stomach because of the Ozempic. We almost had to resort to a nasal rescue spray with glucagon to trigger release of stored sugar. That is always on hand like a CCW in a bad neighborhood.

All of these are side effects of rapid weight loss, they’re not due to Ozempic. This is just more sensationalist BS to pile on the other BS being spewed about these drugs. Ozempic has been out for years and has been proven very safe. I suspect these sensationalist articles are just to get it in the news and generate more buzz in order for the weight loss industry to sell more magic ginger root supplements that don’t work.

Doctors and drug companies encourage it. The NHS is promoting it.

There is no shortcut to losing weight and becoming healthy. You have to put in the work. And it’s not about A diet, it’s about YOUR diet.

The side effect of rapid weight loss is hair loss.

Might not have anything to do with the drugs

They want to be able to eat what they want, exercise none, and still lose weight.

That's it! That's what I want. Lean diets are mean diets. They want me to give up my 2 liter bottles of Mountain Dew. My Little Debbies and Twinkies. My ice cream right before bedtime. Life just wouldn't be worth living without these few luxuries. Ramen noodles and Mac and Cheese only go so far.

Well, hair has mass, so technically, they are just losing a little extra weight.

...and then there are people who, for reasons that confound doctors, have a heart rate of 40, BP of 120 over 70, great blood work, but are heavy.

It also causes wicked central sleep apena where my brain just forgets to breath while I sleep.

An assessment of my muscle mass shows I “should” be able to eat 1900 calories a day and maintain my weight. They closely monitored my caloric intake for a month and on an average of less than 1500 calories a day I gained 5 pounds.

I am seeing a bariatric doctor now who has me on a combination of an amphetamine and anti-seizure drug that has raise my normal heart rate to almost 70 and helped me lose about 40 pounds so far (about a year). I am also doing weight training at the gym 3 to 4 days a week to keep my muscle mass up.

Be careful about tossing around “just eat less”. According to my doctor, they don’t like to talk about it, but there are a fair number of people like me that just break the conventional wisdom.

“Ozempic and Wegovy have already been linked to a host of other nasty side effects, including...being repulsed by common foods such as ground beef”

Oooh, don’t let AOC know that, or we’ll have Ozempic mandates if people want to keep their jobs.

Ozempic was pretty harsh on me....lost weight because I was sick to my stomach much of the time. Took me over a year to work up to a full weekly dose. It works controlling blood sugar for sure. Didn’t lose any hair tho...
