I heard there might be a new q drop.

I was talking with a local chief last week and mentioned that I had heard that the new Virginia-class was quieter at 20kts than a 688i (SSN-751 and later) is tied up to the pier. He said they were probably quieter than that.
It's getting so that the only way to find a US submarine is when it's tied up at the pier. Either that or look where things are the quietest.
My first ship was specialized for ASW. We were good at it. We could find the Soviet boats without a problem. In 1981 we got our butts kicked in an exercise by USS Shark (SSN-591), an old Skipjack-class boat commissioned in 1961. Ouch.
