Memphis officers were worried about getting pepper spray off their own eyes first and even enjoyed a smoke while Tyre Nichols lay dying on the ground.
Shocking footage of Nichols' encounter with police over a traffic stop shows the moment cops pepper sprayed the 29-year-old, with one officer appearing to accidentally pepper spray himself and another.
The officers cry out in pain and one beats Nichols with a baton afterwards. A cop was later seen asking another officer to flush his eyes with water, while the assisting officer complained about losing his glasses in the initial traffic stop.
After the five officers beat and handcuffed Nichols, who was unable to sit up straight and lay slumped on the ground, one of the officers could be seen lighting a cigarette and smoking as paramedics arrived.
The videos surrounding Nichols death continue to be scrutinized as Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner Jr. issued a new internal investigation after suspending two deputies who stood around as Nichols was left writhing in pain.
One of the videos released by Memphis Police shows the moment Nichols was pepper sprayed in the face after yelling for his mother.
The spraying officer appeared to get himself and another as they jumped away from the scene of the arrest, cursing and yelling in pain.
'Ah ****,' the officers could be heard saying as one wiped his face and walked back to Nichols, who was on his feet.
'Watch out! I'm going to baton the **** out of you,' the officer said as he swings his baton while another sucker punches Nichols.

I am going to guess these were all affirmative action hires who were not required to pass any test.

One thing that is guaranteed in the next year - crime and traffic fatalities are going to skyrocket in Memphis.
If you are reading this and are in Memphis leave now! Even if it’s just to the next county over. There is no fixing this for a long time.
They should throw the book at them. You got to wonder if someone wants the Scorpion unit gone. It isn’t the first time this group acted this way. I hope so.
Sounds like you have never been in a fight where someone uses pepper spray. When pepper spray is used, way over half the time the person using it gets a nice dose also.
And here’s the cool part, if they don’t use the taser and spray when subduing the resisting guy, THAT is an issue also.

Would you prefer that the videos not be released, the officers not arrested and the story not reported in the media?

Some of what we see here is basic human bad behavior prompted by our human nature.
Dogs and humans are pack animals at heart. We live in caves or cabins and in families or tribes. Same with dogs — it’s why we blend them into our families so well.
Dogs and humans hunt in packs as cooperative units and often in the intensity of the hunt, we kill in packs with a vicious unity in hunting or in battle.
The most biological uncivilized aspects of humanity are seen in such unruly blood lust. We enjoy football for the same reason.
These guys allowed their unit to devolve into uncivilized pack behavior. Could have been criminals, could have been white, could have been dogs — its pack behavior unleashed as their human civil nature fell away and the base instincts took over. They should be punished for their actions in accordance with the law and the policy for whom they worked.

We use a viscous bear spray that fires a stream and not a mist. Never had a problem with it.
Since I see no front page humongous photos of the perps, I have to assume they are not Proud boys types.
Bad cops / poorly trained cops are a part of a larger broken and irresponsible political system (and electorate).
From many previous examples, we know how this plays out in America: good cops won't police, new recruits won't join, ANTIFA will riot, the media will hyperventilate, politicians will play political games, no one will take responsibility, the Feds will seek more power, and the city will be left wide-open for crime and lawlessness.
How did that cop lose his glasses in the “initial” traffic stop? Was there a struggle? Did the perp drive away after being stopped? Why did the cops immediately drag the guy out of his car? Why were they so pissed at him?
Where are the riots?
That gel type spray is better for the user. But you better aim well. And you sure need it where you are! I think that gel would hurt more too. Harder to wash out if it hits your face.
