I’ve had/have W95,W98,XP,W7 and W10. Windows 7 is,by far,my favorite.
Just switched to Mac …not going back.
SCARY! If you have Windows 7 or earlier you should hide in your basement.
As soon as Windows 10 is EOL, I am switching to Linux for my everyday browsing and online account activities. Those Windows applications I do not have a suitable replacement for in Linux will remain on a Windows 10 computer that is not connected to the Internet. I am using my last Windows-based computer. I already have one Linux PC as a backup and one Linux laptop.
>> urged to update to newer Windows versions - particularly Windows 11
...that is to say, operating systems that Microsoft, aligned with the CIA and FBI, can force you to update whenever they feel like it, so that their SOVEREIGN spyware and malware can surveil your sorry butt and keep you in line. And, if necessary, plant “evidence” of “crimes” on your computer so they have a reason to pick you up and take you downtown.
Five years ago you’d have called me a conspiracy theorist for saying that. Heck, five years ago *I* would have called me a conspiracy theorist.
Not any more.
It won’t be long before they do the same thing with windows 10. There is one big problem though. Perfectly good and very fast computers(With GEN 7 Processors) are barred from ever having windows 11. The idiotic tax software companies stop allowing there programs to be installed on windows versions no longer supported by MS. And at some point even the browser companies do the same. You can’t even really watch you tube on windows XP anymore. So they force you out.
I have Windows 11. No problems. I like the fast startup.
End-Of-Life for Windows 7 was actually three years ago, January 2020. But who’s counting?
Microsoft has been saying this for decades. I have no idea why anyone uses Win &. It was crawling with viruses. No Windows platform is safe. And win NT was the simplest so had had the least crap in it. There isn’t a version that good. But it runs the software I need.
I am currently posting this using windows RT.
It runs circles around my win 11 tablet.
No fear here, I never use any PC to access the web.
My 7 and 8 systems are safe.
Have to keep them in order to use programs that are no longer available, or only available in a $$$$$$$$$ version.
Distantly related:
What’s the easiest DOS emulator to use, these days.
I used to use DosBox, but that was years ago. Plenty of arcane command line type input needed to make it work, and I never could get graphics from DOS programs to scale the way I wanted.
(Yeah, I still have a couple ol’ DOS lab programs I need to get fired back up.)
I still have my free TShirt from the Windows 7 launch party I went to. 2009 I think. I wore it yesterday for good luck.
Do you know which ones those are?
Horse puckey and scare-mongering. There are still more than 25 million Windows XP PCs visible on the Internet (a little more than 1% of all users).
Time has proved that MS is incapable of killing off its own OSes. What does finally kill them is the withdrawal of supporting technologies, particularly browsers, Java, and (formerly) Shockwave.
i wonder if MS will hire hackers to specifically go after windows 7 users to force them to upgrade now?
I want to reload either windows 98se or ME otherwise I’ll prefer a world without windows or gates.
I’ve got one PC still running Windows XP just for posterity. Figure my Windows 7 PCs should last longer than me.
OR, you can get yourself a good firewall, 2 or 3 anti-virus/anti-malware programs and don’t take stupid steps like opening unknown email attachments. Plus be sure to run backups and have a clean version to reinstall if needed.
The idea that Microsoft has been protecting your computer all this time is ridiculous. You have to protect yourself.
