SCARY! If you have Windows 7 or earlier you should hide in your basement.

You’d be surprised to learn how many Windows 7 computers exist in engineering and manufacturing applications... with engineers and techs “hiding [them] in the basement” from their own IT departments...

Can't, I'm on a Cretaceous era basalt pluton. No way to even have a basement...

Hide in my basement? It’s where I have an old tower computer with Windows 7 as the operating system.

I only recently upgraded late Nov 2022 to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I had used it at work and on a laptop at home and did not like how disorganized it is.

I upgraded because of some software required it that I like to use. I first did an upgrade and that had issues so after 2 weeks or so of fighting it I did a clean install which went better. I had to get 3rd party software to make it work better. Just to change the color of the text under the icons you now need either a registry fix or use Iconoid https://sillysot.com

Tip: Use Iconoid for text color and also you can lock icon positions in place.
Use DesktopOK 10.61 https://www.softwareok.com/?seite=Freeware/DesktopOK to lock icons in place. Use Start> Settings> Personification> Theme and Windows (light) theme and change background etc. then save your theme then use WinPaletter and save that theme then go back and save the theme again in Personification> Theme

Winaero Tweaker for other changes.

WinPaletter to change colors of the Taskbar different then the Start Menu.
https://winpaletter.en.uptodown.com/windows
7+ Taskbar Tweaker in order to change the order of the taskbar buttons.

When you install any program it will take over some default action you do not want even though windows will show say the favorite photo viewer is listed but Windows will keep asking which program to use...

To change your default apps, go to Settings > Apps > Default Programs.
There is a Reset button at the bottom that you use then you choose again your default programs YOU want. Tip: Install all your software then do the Reset then choose your default programs. Any new software and you will do a repeat. I have done several times already!

Also will need to use ‘Choose default apps by file type’ as I do to choose my PDF viewer ‘Foxit PDF Editor’ and not MS Edge!

There were many other annoyances that I did not have in earlier versions of Windows.
