Vanity: Thank you for your service, but....
11/9/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

Donald Trump is my favorite President, even more so than Ronald Reagan.

However, I think I’m moving on from him.

I like him in the role of a clarion-calling standard bearer, and his presidency was the best I have ever seen.

I don’t like him in terms of his failure to be a team player. I’m not even sure I like him as a kingmaker. Calling out numbers to make him look good, in a severely-disappointing election shows me he doesn’t care about the boots on the ground, but only how he looks.

Reagan faced the same Establishment hate and Media mocking, but he had a great way of playful rebuttal, with a twinkle in his eye and a little smile. America loved that. All the attacks mustered against him, failed, because he was able to gently turn it around on his attacker with a witty quip or a well thought out fact.

Reagan was also the author of the phrase, the 11th commandment, which was “Thou shall not attack a fellow Republican.”

Trump, on the other hand, has a serious ego problem. He cannot resist getting into a public verbal fight with anyone who criticizes him. While this was fresh and new in 2016, and propelled him into the presidency, it doesn’t work in 2022.

Also, the way Trump fights back is not nearly as good as Reagan’s style. Trump hasn’t got the charm of Reagan, and it’s beginning to hurt our side.

It is for these reasons that I must move on from Donald Trump. Sir, thank you for your incredibly wonderful service in 2016 through 2020. You made those years prosperous and sane. But it is time to move on.

I’m likely to get a ton of flak for this post. That’s okay, I can take it.

I admire Ronald Reagan. And I admire George Patton. Trump is a combination of the two.

But not in the best possible way. Trump has too much Patton, and not enough Reagan. Is it even possible to have too much Patton in you? You betcha it is. Recall that Patton had a benefactor - Ike - who keep Patton from going completely off the rails. Trump has no Ike.

So yeah, Laz. You’re more right than wrong here.

And as a side note, I keep hoping Trump will do a course-correction. His ideas are just what the country needs. But it looks like he is unable to course-correct. And that’s a pity for the country.

The RNC should take a lot of the blame too. Ronna (ROMNEY) McDaniel and co suck. The RNC filed a bunch of election lawsuits but only 2-3 weeks ago. I don’t really get GOP/RND mailings anymore but when I did, I noticed the messaging was just stupid and aimed at old naive people or stupid people. Look at that DeSantis ad. On the 8th day, God created DeSantis? That was the RNC. They’re out of touch.

The GOPe deserves a lot of blame too for playing around with where they put their money.

No flak from me. Maybe you’re right.

Maybe I just go back to the days of writing in “Ronald McDonald” on my ballot in presidential elections.

Trump is announcing his candidcy on the 15th.

So will you, like the Cruzer Losers did in '16, be officially campaigning against him?

Trump wil crush the mini orange man wanna bee like a bug.....

I endeavor not to post on outcomes when the clock still isn't reading 00:00.

And I've seen lots of people have a Road to Damascus moment. So I'm not yet on the flight out of Trumpville.

But the departure lounge is a good place for now. For all the reasons you stated, plus one...

I apologize for reposting, but Trump's Achilles is his personnel instincts. They're a virtual dumpster fire. Sessions, the Mooch, Bolton, Tillersn, Mattis, Giuliani, McCabe, Nikki Haley, Sally Yates, Flynn, Hope Hicks, Reince Priebus, Rod Rosenstein. Oh, and Pence...and endorsing McCarthy. And now all the nonsense with DeSantis.

This is not an inconsequential Achilles. Indeed, picking Rudy to lead the stolen election charge was a disaster. He may have been America's Mayor but he was out of his league when arguing cases. In fact he was by many accounts hung over and that's why his hair dye was trickling down his face. Maybe that deck was stacked against Trump and there was no way he'd secure re-election via the courts, but our "ace" pitcher had no heat and the skipper kept him on the mound out of loyalty.

Ignoring a problem won't make it go away, and this is a big problem.

Re-electing Trump is tough enough. And I love the eye-poking of the MSM and the days of media head explosions after Trump trolls them. And we got awesome judicial picks.

But we have an illegal immigration problem, runaway deficits, a DOJ that treats parents like war criminals, and a conga line of actual stuff that needs ADMINISTRATION. I don't want to spend four years crossing my fingers on him selecting competent pit bulls to administer MAGA.

Well, I will say this about Ronald. He’s a strong believer in the 2A.

(Just trying to injection a little humor into a rather melancholy day.)

Trump would probably win the primary, but will Trump win the general election in 2024? Will he win PA, Arizona or Nevada?

I can’t complain about the RNC because I am not a Republican. If I WAS a Republican I’d feel like I belong to a party run by retardates.

“Will he win PA, Arizona or Nevada?”

Yes, Yes, and Yes. But then they will steal it from US just like before and nobody will lift a finger.

Trump was a tool for Conservative governance, no more no less.

Trump had a 50/50 nation and it stayed a 50/50 nation

DeSantis took a 50/50 state and made it a 60/40 state that excels across the board. He can do that nationally.

DeSantis has Trump’s positives, the fire in the belly, and the refusal to accept Democrat premises. But he is missing Trump’s glaring weaknesses in message discipline.

Trump needs to bow out to a younger, and frankly more successful candidate.

I’ll vote Trump in the 2024 General Election, if need be, but I hope I’ll be voting for DeSantis
