I admire Ronald Reagan. And I admire George Patton. Trump is a combination of the two.
But not in the best possible way. Trump has too much Patton, and not enough Reagan. Is it even possible to have too much Patton in you? You betcha it is. Recall that Patton had a benefactor - Ike - who keep Patton from going completely off the rails. Trump has no Ike.
So yeah, Laz. You’re more right than wrong here.
And as a side note, I keep hoping Trump will do a course-correction. His ideas are just what the country needs. But it looks like he is unable to course-correct. And that’s a pity for the country.
I didn't recognize a difference in the media between Reagan and Bush Sr. But there was a sizeable increase in hostility from the Drive By Media toward Bush Jr. Then even more toward Trump.
It's like saying a cop should have handled being shot at as gracefully as a prior cop handled being punched at.
Someone changing their style is not a course correction, it's a personality transplant.
Even if he tried, he has already established his position in people's minds. Too late.
Trump's strengths are his weaknesses. He is one hell of a fighter!
Patton was a good general. But Trump is no Patton.
People have a view of Patton that is really Coppola’s words based on Bradley’s stories. He was a much deeper person than the general public knows. He was an Olympian and a poet.
Trump is a loud New York real estate guy. He knows how to work a room and bring attention to himself.
He proved himself to be a poor manager. He is absolutely not a team player. And he never owns his mistakes or how his mouth gets him in trouble.
I voted for him in primaries and the general election because he was the best choice. That’s not the case anymore.
Plus he is as old as dirt.
