I didn't recognize a difference in the media between Reagan and Bush Sr. But there was a sizeable increase in hostility from the Drive By Media toward Bush Jr. Then even more toward Trump.
It's like saying a cop should have handled being shot at as gracefully as a prior cop handled being punched at.
> I respectfully disagree with the premise that Reagan faced the same hostile media that Trump faced. <
Oh, yes. You are correct there. It was a world of difference. The media kinda made fun of Reagan, in a mean-spirited sort of way. But they vilified Trump. Reagan was called a dunce. Trump was called a monster.
So what do you do? You keep your guard up and play it smart. Don’t give your enemy an opening. Unfortunately, Trump rarely did that.
All of politics has become more crude and hostile.
Biden is crude and hostile. Obama was crude and hostile. The press is crude and hostile. Many congressmen and senators are crude and hostile.
The 1980's were a more refined, gracious, gentlemanly time. Remember Mondale's reaction when Reagan poked a little fun at him? He genuinely laughed, and was gracious about it. That would never happen today.
They impeached Trump...
How many times??
.
He should have gone POSTAL.
