A new beginning for Israel and the European Union? (Israel has gas to export)
JNS ^ | October 11, 2022 | BY DMITRI SHUFUTINSKY

After a decade, the E.U.-Israel Association Council met. Although ties are improving, the question of Palestinian statehood persists.

Government ministers from Israel and the European Union met on Oct. 3 for the first “Association talks” since 2012. Intelligence Minister Elazar Stern headed the Israeli delegation at the E.U.-Israel Association Council session in Brussels.

Established in 1995 and first operating in 2000, the group has not met since July 2012, in part due to differences in views over Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, commonly known as the West Bank. Bouts of violence between Palestinians and Israel, along with the COVID-19 pandemic, frequent Israeli elections, and problems within the E.U. further delayed any such meetings.

“The Europeans need to diversify their sources of natural gas, and Israel is a natural regional partner in this regard and a key player.

Energy and Iran Perhaps the biggest challenge Israel faces regarding its relationship with Europe is Iran. The European Union, in particular France and Germany, has sought increased diplomatic engagement with the Islamic Republic in the form of a nuclear deal. Great Britain, which left the European Union in 2020, has also been pushing for engagement with the Islamic Republic.

Between the protests raging in the country, its military support to Russia, and its missile strikes in Iraqi Kurdistan, there is a growing understanding in Brussels that appeasing Iran might not be moral or possible,” he added.

“Even though European countries prefer diplomacy and oppose U.S.-Iran tensions, they see the war in Ukraine as potentially meaning the world will not become more peaceful. That means everyone understands that appeasing Iran has not helped and has only emboldened Russia and Iran.”

“Money charges everything” Cindy Lauper
and
So does having gas and oil for sale to Europe. Though Israel just has gas to sell, and is expanding on this.

Plus Europe is awakening to the Iran-Russia alliance in the Ukraine war. Now Iran does not look like such nice guys to buy oil from.

Israel benefits from the ‘normalization’ of the Abraham Accords, but suffers from too much domestic political instability.

Its doubtful they’ll be successful in breaking the European perception that Israel is an apartheid state or that any deal with one Israeli government will survive the next election.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the EU chose to let their people freeze rather than do anything to enrich Israel.

Israel now has something the EU desperately needs so now Israel is once again a dear friend and close ally.
Kinda like politicians, when they need my vote.

You're giving Mumsie a run for her money with the pinwheels-for-eyes thingee.

On top of the higher price for LNG, the added problem of "infrastructure is now fair game" has been added to the mix.

Read that and weep.

Without foreign interference, Israel and Cyprus could already be piping gas in to Europe.

You should have read the link. LNG may be 7x more expensive today in Europe, than Putin’s gas was a year ago.
But actual price of LNG is $7 dollars more than pipelined gas. This taking into account liquification, shipping, re- gasification. Europe can deal with this and so can German manufacturing.

The world has many willing LNG sellers. You can tell by the LNG ships loitering, waiting to unload. Europe just has to build more LNG import terminals. Which it is.
