LNG Flotilla Carrying U.S. Gas Heading to Europe
gCaptain ^ | December 22, 2021 | Bloomberg

Cold-stricken Europe is drawing a flotilla of U.S. liquefied natural gas cargoes amid an energy crisis that has sent gas prices to record levels.

Facing a winter shortage and little relief from the continent’s main supplier Russia, natural gas in Northwest Europe is trading for about $57.54 per million British thermal units, up almost a third from a week earlier. That’s roughly $24 higher than Asian prices and more than 14 times higher than gas being sold on U.S. benchmark Henry Hub.

We're a bunch of chumps.

The U.S. might as well have a giant-sized Kick Me sign on the back.

We’re not giving it away to them. It’s going there because that’s who’s willing to pay through the nose for it right now. Europe’s lack of vision is US capitalism’s gain.

It is for the US Gas Companies they are getting a max price over seas while buying gas here in America for lower prices.

Are you sure we aren't subsidizing this in some way?

I'm betting we are.

This is very confusing. Why does Europe need U.S. liquified natural gas? Couldn’t they just build more wind turbines?

Europe Braces For Energy Crunch As Deep Freeze Sets In
Bloomberg

December 19, 2021

Europe is bracing for energy shortages this week as freezing weather is set to boost demand at a time supply just can’t keep up.

Temperatures are forecast to fall below zero degrees Celsius in several European capitals this week, straining electricity grids already coping with low wind speeds and severe nuclear outages in France. To make matters worse, Russia signaled it intends to keep natural gas flows through a major transit route to Germany limited on Monday after capping supplies over the weekend.

Energy prices have spiraled out of control this year, with European gas prices surging some 600%. As temperatures are forecast to briefly dip below seasonal norms at the start of the week, short-term electricity prices surged. In France, power for delivery on Monday rallied to the highest level since a rare spike in 2009, while Germany prices were the third highest on record.

I'm not endorsing the practice, just making an observation.
