My friend was telling me he was watching the pregame show for the MLB playoff game between the New York Yankees and the now Cleveland Guardians. [The game is currently rained out]
The announcers are Ernie Johnson and Hall-of-Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez. Martinez started calling them the Indians, and Johnson tried to current him, but Martinez just keeps calling them the Indians. Johnson was visibly annoyed and kept saying, "You mean Guardians."
Even after the commercial break, he came back and said Indians. And Johnson was saying Guardians as many times as he could, and it became passive aggressive
No, he’s right. You can assume that. Look how I phrased the last post.
Pedro is from Latin America, where the population is a higher percentage Indian ancestry. I don’t understand why they want to remove indications of our Indian heritage and he probably feels the same way.
Is it true that Kim Kardashian wants to buy the team and call them the Kardashians?
Guardians sounds like a good name for a male incontinence product.
He is Domincan.
Agree
When there was talk of changing the Stanford nickname back in the ‘70s, “Robber Barons” was suggested. Too close to the truth?
Well he looks pretty Indian.
That ‘Naps’ name was used when Napoleon Lajoie was their captain.
Similar to when the Dodgers called themselves the ‘Brooklyn Robins’ when Wilbert Robinson was their manager.
watch it again, Pedro just helped the old guy to the ground as he was charging Pedro, even Zimmer said he was in the wrong
I’ve driven over that bridge thousands of times going to work, and never noticed the stupid guardians. Just some bit of local triva they thought they could exaggerate into a famous landmark.
Braves Fan here (since 1977). I want the Padres to destroy Filthadelphia. I hate all things Philly. Braves and Dodgers sure did lay a big egg this year.
