General Dynamics Land Systems has officially unveiled its AbramsX future main battle tank concept in the flesh — or should we say in the steel.
Earlier this week we wrote up the latest on the feature-packed M1 Abrams evolution, but now we get to see the actual hardware ahead of the Association of the U.S. Army's big conference in Washington, D.C., this week

Great. Now I have to watch Stripes again. Excellent.
DOD has been developing solid oxide fuel cell technology that runs on JP-8 since 2010 or earlier. The stated purpose has always been low maintenance, high efficiency gensets, but I recall some talk about testing it in APCs and such for electric drive power. The big problem then was dealing with the fuel cell's waste heat, not insignificant on the battlefield.
No telling what's under the hood now (or what might be slated for later production).
Given how Presidementia XiJinBiden seems to be pushing for war, nuclear or otherwise, against Russia and seeing how he is draining the SPR, I sure hope they have HUNDREDS of prototypes that are ready to go! We (the West) is gonna need ‘em! Presidementia Joe BiteMe needs to be gagged before hs starts a war!
Reactivate MegaForce.
They had the dual mode turbine electric stuff plus the flying motorcycle.
Thought it might be a UA soldier, but he looks more like one of Kaderov’s troops fresh from Chechnya
how many maintenance man hours per hour now divided by three?
a diesel/electric hybrid.
—
Environmentalists ecstatic! South Koreans laugh.
The fuel efficiency and power in diesel-electric locomotives has been proven for decades.
—
Especially when those diesel-electric locomotives where sent into combat under adverse conditions and hostile fire.
It could end up like some of those hybrid littoral combat ships that as soon as you shifted it into the alternative drive, the transmission broke.
Wonder how good the treads are in mud.
I guess it’s a step or two up from my old M-48? Not sure I could actually get in it tho?
Reminds me of a Prius. ** ducking **
I was at a local military museum on Friday looking over a WWII half-track. I told my brother that one of our neighbors when we were growing up had one in his garage. He never knew about it, but I had seen it before.
The original M-1 was 4x4 man hours maintenance to one hour on the move. This thing is so friggen hi-teck. No hatches on top, I wonder if everyone has to climb in the drivers hatch?
This is the typical thing a weapons manufacturer does when a weapons platform reaches the end-of-the-road. They design and build a “concept” in a vain attempt to keep an assembly line open. See “Crusader III”, “F-14 Super Tomcat”, etc. Armored warfare is at a crossroad. There will still be something to fill the role of a “survivable direct-fire platform”, but it may not resemble what we call a ‘tank’.
Anyone notice how badly Putin’s armor is doing in Ukraine?
“Thats reducing the need for a Bradley and the loader’s Machine gun ( now that the loader is not there in this new concept).”
Not really. The Bradley or more specifically it’s replacement is still going to be in the picture armed with upto a 50mm cannon.
The M230 chain gun is there to engage targets at a greater range than that of the Ma Deuce. If it has the programmable rounds, they can airburst to take out drones.
when these first came out there was a vid of one doing tight figure 8s very fast while the turret was locked on to the camera. never have i seen anything more impressive...
Phew...thought you were talking about Stacey Abrams.
<>Grow up<>
That’s become your standard response when you have nothing to contribute.
looks like two side by side
