General Dynamics Land Systems has officially unveiled its AbramsX future main battle tank concept in the flesh — or should we say in the steel.
Earlier this week we wrote up the latest on the feature-packed M1 Abrams evolution, but now we get to see the actual hardware ahead of the Association of the U.S. Army's big conference in Washington, D.C., this week

Interesting concept. That 30mm on top looks like the same that’s currently on the AH-64D/E Apache.
I’d like to know more about this Hybrid powertrain...
“ vehicle’s hybrid powertrain buried deep inside it is probably its most exciting feature. General Dynamics says this will result in a whopping 50% fuel savings — the Abrams’ kerosine-guzzling turbine engine has long been a major logistics vs performance trade-off. This hybrid system will also allow AbramsX to operate silently while sitting idle and possibly even for short durations at low speed.”
I wonder if its some sort of Hydraulic Accumulator design. I just can see a battery big enough to move a tank.
Back to diesel?
“Back to diesel?”
No.
Sadam is alive and testing our tanks?
The military uses kerosene-derived JP8 across most platforms. It’s similar to diesel.
From another link, it sounds like a diesel/electric hybrid.
But I’m not sure.

Thats reducing the need for a Bradley and the loader’s Machine gun ( now that the loader is not there in this new concept).

All-electric
I always did like that cartoon. Had it on a T-Shirt some time back.
So, we shipping the old ones to U-crane?
