A Florida man spent 30 hours in jail and is facing a felony charge after he murdered his neighbor's rooster in what he called an act of self-defense.
James Nix, 54, is going viral in the wake of his arrest after detailing how he killed his neighbor's rooster in May, according to a report.
"I'm defending myself, you know," Nix, a Jacksonville native, said. "I was fearing for my safety, and the chicken died."
"I didn't know to give it a 21-gun salute!" he continued. "CPR, mouth-to-mouth, do you know? Or call the chicken ambulance?"
Nix was grabbing his mail when the rooster belonging to Jason Defelice came after him, he claimed.

Defelice contacted animal control, and Nix was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty, the report noted.
"Next thing you know, he calls the chicken police on me," Nix said.
"Chickens die every day, people - at Churches, Popeyes, Kentucky Fried Chicken."

It can’t be murder, you can only murder another human being, not a chicken.
Meanwhile, cops shoot beloved family dogs all the time and nothing comes of it. It’s not a crime when they do it.

My neighbor keeps chickens,. He bought six “hens” two of which had testicles. The noisy bastards were separated and he bore it for about as long as he could.
Eventually, he could take the constant crowing no longer. Her set them free to consort with the local foxes, bobcats and coyotes.
Problem solved.

Roosters can be dickheads.
Never ran across one that was that much of a dickhead but I have known a Turkey and a couple gooses that were actually a threat to the public.
Particularly to stray children.
They all turned into neighborhood dinners with no complaints
The neighbor is a petty person who only sees his side of the story. If the rooster was in that man’s yard and in that man’s face, then it needed killin’. The rooster’s owner was negligent to allowing the bird to wander onto other folks property. It is surprising the man got 30 hours in jail for putting down a chicken. The sheriff is on rooster-man’s side for some reason.
Getting spurred by a rooster can hurt but hardly a murdering offense.
My dad got spurred by a rooster and he grabbed the nearest thing he could, which was a big dead branch. He knocked the rooster square and left it for dead.
He later came back to put it in the pot and it was gone. Thought a varmint got him.
Next morning the rooster was back patrolling his territory but gave my dad a wide space.
This can’t possibly be what is stated.
