Bette Midler Blasted for Telling Moms to ‘Try Breastfeeding!’ Amid Formula Shortage
New York Post ^ | May 13, 2022 | Natalie O'Neill

Bette Midler urged moms to simply “TRY BREASTFEEDING” amid the crippling breast formula shortage — and was widely slammed for the “obtuse” and ignorant comment Friday.

The 76-year-old “Beaches” star was responding to a tweet from MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle Thursday night that declared the “baby formula shortage reveals an amazing secret oligopoly” of three companies owning “90%” of the market.

The Divine Ms. M shot back, “TRY BREASTFEEEDING! It’s free and available on demand,” prompting a firestorm of criticism from parents.

Even a stopped clock is right once or twice a day. While it’s true some mothers cannot adequately breast feed their babies, most can, and if they did so there would likely be plenty of formula for the rest.

Technically, it may be possible, but the government tries to prevent it. A lot of parents want to buy formula from Europe, because there are some higher standards, but the FDA won’t prove European formula as safe.

I sense a new term among the Woke: Breast Feeding People

They're already saying that. For example, here's a CDC web page: Care for Breastfeeding People.

You can do a Google search for "breastfeeding people" to find lots of other examples from "respected" institutions like Health and Human Services, Harvard University, Mass General Hospital, etc.

The whole thing is some sort of of mass psychosis among the woke, with broad enforcement among the rest of the population via bullying and shunning (which are what "canceling" really is).

#10: "But, it can take a lot of time and effort."

Bingo! We have a winner. Because breast feeding, created by God for His babies, interferes with the modern woman's "lifestyle".

"I was an underweight preemie in the early ‘50s and my doctor put me on the Pet milk/Karo syrup “formula.”

Both my sons, born in 1966 and 1971 were put on whole milk with Karo syrup by my pediatrician within 2-3 weeks of birth. The oldest weighed 7 lbs. 15 ounces; the youngest 9 lbs. 5 ounces. I tried to breast feed the youngest, and also added formula, but neither filled him up. The pediatrician also had me start them both on rice cereal, and soon after, added fruit.

Absolutely. The chaos the left creates gives easy opportunity to any disrupter. Financial entities, governments, the power mad, terrorists, conquerors.

All totalitarian constructs are leftist.

That won’t work for women who let their milk dry up.
How about opening the formula factory back up and stop sending it to other countries/illegal aliens, instead?

How about importing ‘formula’ from PRC (Politically Repressive Canada, that is)?

Importing is a no no and has been for decades.

The FDA has a checklist of what must be in formula and how much and unless what you are bringing in matches that exactly your package will be siezed and the contents destroyed.

My mom and all her siblings had cow’s milk. She was born in 1917.

I didn’t know anything about babies when I had my first, but when I mentioned “Milk” people acted like a suggested poison.
It’s all a part of the conditioning and demoralization, so that you think you can’t make it without government.

Cat milk, of course.

It’s the most concentrated.

The hard part is finding a tiny little milking stool.

Lots of babies grew up in the old days with health problems caused by nutritional deficiencies.

Which do NOT come from breast feeding.

There is no way human milk is not the best option for human babies. This holds true for EVERY mammal. The milk the mother produces is exactly suited for the nutritional needs of their young, much to your chagrin.

You can wish away all you want the breast feeding is inferior to manufactured formula and it will never change the facts that formula doesn’t even come close to the nutritional completeness of human milk for human babies.

Formula is a necessary evil. It is the only option in some exceptional circumstances, but that is NOT the norm. It’s the exception.

If a baby is allergic to its mothers milk, it’s not going to do well with other milks either.

Any claim that the baby is allergic to mother’s milk is most likely that the baby is allergic to something the mother is eating, and not the milk itself.

Putting a baby on formula simply because a baby MIGHT possibly be allergic to mom’s milk is foolhardy. Women should try breastfeeding first before presuming the worst from the get go.

In an economy where both parents have to work, a woman often stops breast feeding when she returns to work. In an emergency, breast feeding can be restored over time. I breast fed my first child 9 months when the stress of working made my milk supply shrink to the point my child was annoyed by it and could drink milk and eat baby food. My second child spent his first week in the hospital with aspiration pneumonia. I pumped my milk and was able to breastfeed when I got him home. He nursed for 2 1/2 years. Both were strong and healthy but the second child is much calmer and moee affectionate. They are now about 50 years old.

There are plenty of long established formulas on line for making baby milk. Ideally one could use such a formula while reestablishing breast feeding, or even starting it for the first time which is also possible with effort. Adding baby supplements to such a formula is a good idea. The advice against making your own formula means sanitation must be carefully followed, but may also be encouraged by the big three formula providers. Questions about similar behavior to support vaccine makers has been noted at FR. Anything that promotes ideal nutrition is the best way to promote good health.

Note the green tinted paragraph in this article with the WHO recommendation. This is especially recommended for people working in third world conditions with people who may be illiterate or lacking normal US sanitation. If you are educated and can follow a recipe successfully, you should be able to make this Evaporated milk formula for short term use. Once safe supplies are once again available or you succeed in breastfeeding you can stop using the homemade type. Also, remember: NEVER USE CONDENSED MILK it is very sweet.
