Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

It’s not like I’m going to turn up on the doorstep and say I’m moving in. I’d just like to send a birthday card!

Nah. If you turned up on anyone’s doorstep, I would hope it would be mine. ;o]

FS has always been good about giving me his new addresses. FD OTOH, seems to feel its not a good idea to be too chummy. Except now that two of her half-siblings have passed away this year, suddenly, Momma is a Needful Thing.

Good job!

Be safe this weekend and if you’re driving, watch out for the other guy!

Yes, I know, and its why I haven’t pushed. You’re the only one who knows your schedule.

One last revision on the talk, and it’s done. I think it will work.

To: Monkey Face; All; y'all; no one in particular

Does anyone know where I can get “talking tapes” — strips of plastic with patterns of ridges on them that, when you run your fingernail across the ridges along the tape, turns into an audio player loud enough to be heard if the end is clamped in your teeth or attached to a box or balloon resonator?

I need one that sings “Happy Birthday”.

Any info appreciated!

I’ve never heard of that, but it certainly sounds fun?

Did you do any online searches? (I may be sorry I asked that!) :o|

Not successfully, found a few places that are out of stock, no known stock date, one from 2007...

Wow. Anything overseas? Like GB? Of course shipping it from England may be cost prohibitive.

Grand Illusions, in GB out of stock, 2007 reference. Educational Innovations, in CT out of stock, they started up in 1994.

On the notify me when it comes in list for both.

That’s a start. If they know there’s an interest, and all that. If you send me the links, I’ll add my name to the “notify me when it comes in” lists. It’s not much, but maybe it will be enough.

Kitteh looks like he’s ‘splorin’ the knitting machine.

Good morning.

I didn’t want to get up, but a shower is required. Unngh. I’m almost too tired to mess with it, but there is that talk that needs to be given.

It’s just going to be a long day. Very long, unless I can find a ride home before 1430.

I will pray that you find someone to drive you home when you’re ready to go. Maybe you will see someone getting ready to leave, and you could ask if it would be convenient for them to take you along?

It does look like a knitting machine, but I think it’s a cat-toy made from two laundry baskets attached top-to-top with the bottoms cut out.

You may be right on the laundry baskets!

Replied by FReepmail.

The kitten picture is a from a rescue-foster care lady in Australia. I don’t know whether Australia has dollar stores, but if they do, she could get the two small laundry baskets for a dollar each, and some twine to attach them for another dollar, and have an instant kitten-happy.

If the Wordle is causing you to judge yourself negatively, you can let it go. On the other hand, if you think it’s fun, carry on.
