Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

I got that one in three, using the same method I used yesterday.
The plan is to be here until Friday. Maybe good weather tomorrow.
It was a relief to know they were finally able to leave, but I can’t imagine the nightmare of having to make all the changes in ground transportation and hotels, just because of that one cancellation. It most certainly had a snowball effect.
I certainly wouldn’t want an overnight flight on anything smaller and that’s a fact. I had an entire short row to myself, both ways.
I hope you enjoyed your time in the library! Did the girls go with you?
I’m very happy that you got the tents set up before the rain came. Who got The Cave this time?
Sally is using the cave, but it’s very leaky. I think her boyfriend is going to come and get her later. (Wimp!)
We stopped by the campsite and made sandwiches, because a Scout is Thrifty, and now we’re at the Cradle of Forestry.
Sally doesn’t know what real adventure is like! LOL!
The Other Folks finally got to their hotel in Rome just a few minutes ago, so with any luck, they should be back on schedule by this time tomorrow. I hope so.
I’m going to have to get a new lock for the door, because something is going on with this one. I’m afraid of being locked in or locked out, and as slow as the other things are at being rectified, I may have to wait another six months for a lock. I can’t do that!
For now, I’m beginning to feel the effects of being up early this morning so I need to find something to do to keep myself busy.
Whoa—zaftig kitteh! TYVM.
😂

I’m sure that the trip will be fun!

Hoping that The Other Folks’ trip goes well...

...and that you enjoy the peacefulness!
Thanks! I suspect that once they get some decent rest and are able to get back to their original schedule, things will go quite well for him.
I think his big concern was that he might not be able to be in Wolfsburg, Germany for his birthday, and that has been a dream of his for a good many years. He has even taken some photos of the VW restorations he has done in case anyone at the factory is interested.
You may not know this, Z, but almost my entire life has been one of “peacefulness!” Military wife, aerospace wife, divorcee, and then widow. Good thing I’m happy with my inner self! ;o]
Get some coffee and let's get started with the day.

Glad to hear the Other Folks are getting back on schedule after the bumpy start to their trip.
Thanks, so am I!
They are in Amalfi, now and have a very nice hotel room overlooking the Med. They’ll be there another three days, then back to Rome overnight and then on to Germany!
(I’m so jealous!!!)
I’m jealous too! I lived in southern Italy for three years as a “tween” and I love that region. I went back as an adult (2004) and not a whole lot had changed. Certainly not the charm and beauty.
I’ve never been but my Favorite Daughter was stationed in Naples, so she saw a lot of the area.
At least they’re sending pics as fast as the interwebs will let them!
