Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Oh, I hope they do too. There’s always a way. These things happen, but they shouldn’t cancel their trip over it. It takes a little patience and determination, but they can still do this.
Living in desert dry heat had its pros and cons.
Pro - I rarely had a bad hair day. (Except for sandstorm days…)
Con - I needed a *lot* of face and body moisturizers.
Okay, that’s another factor. Still, it probably could have worked out.
I was lucky and didn’t need to use too much in the way of moisturizers until my age began to catch up with me.
I also think if I had been as active as I was before I moved to the desert, my body would have liked me better!
Still, dry heat is what I want, because the rain makes the joints fight back! It’s all good, though!
If it was socked in, they still could have spent the night, maybe, and caught a flight out the next day. The just spent a lot of time and money chasing after something they couldn’t control, and that in itself is pretty sad.
I mean their tickets were paid for, but they spent additional money going to DC and then coming back to Litle Rock. I still don’t have any update on where they are, now. I don’t know when I will, either.
So, for now, I’m going to close up shop and head for bed and hope the morning brings me better news. What a miserable day this must have been for both of them. :o[
Stuck in DC overnight and will try to fly out of JFK tomorrow. I hope they can make it work!
They drove to Memphis, flew to DC, returned to Little Rock, and now they’re back in DC? I hope they have toothbrushes!
Oh, I wondered about that... whether this was part of that system to the North... thanks for the update!
I am now up to 36, well behind my most frequent category of four-row solutions: 48.
Thanks, it was quite awhile for me as well... seemed that I was stuck in the 4-row and 5-row doldrums...
I bet that you got some later in the evening... it started later here, around 8PM or so... I am pretty sure that when I loaded the radar a couple of times, I saw your area under some good rain...
Not sure how much we got overall, but there was some steady rain for a spell...
A bit of a rare treat at the moment... setting on the front porch in 60 degree temps with a relative dry breeze blowing in from the North... delightful!!
Opened the windows and turned off the AC... nice...
🙂
Good Sunday Morning!
Hoping that your weekend is going well... whether you are dry, wet, or in between...

We got some rain at last yesterday afternoon. Rain is predicted during the camping trip, but oh well.
Enjoy the trip... rain (but not too much of it!) makes it “real” while camping...
Being prepared is the important thing.
Indeed!
No, they stayed in DC, apparently. Nothing new so far this morning, so all I can do is wait and see.
No sense worrying. It gives me ulcers.
I guess you two must have gotten the tail-end of the storm, but I was held hostage for over six hours by thunder. Most of it distant, but some of it uncomfortably close.
Did I tell you I hate thunderstorms?
