Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

It’s less hot here today. I’m thinking of stretching out on the picnic table to sleep for a while. I don’t have another archery group until 2:20.
Go for it! A nap is a nap, no matter where its taken! ;o])
"...and I hope it stops being 107° and stuff here soon."
I wholeheartedly agree!
We are more than 10 miles from any paved roads or other asphalt and we were seeing 107F yesterday... a neighbor said she saw 110F on her fully shaded thermometer yesterday afternoon...
And we need some substantial rain soon...
A bit of a strange one today:

Felt lucky to get it in five rows...
zz,
We’re talking about the English language.
All of it is weird.
Just, for example, you would think ‘good’ and ‘food’ would rhyme, right? But they don’t.
Weird.
Yikes.That one was hard.

Like you I am hoping for rain.
I don’t think any of us had an easy time of it today.
That is a very good point.... these are 5 letter English language words!
Rain!
🙏🏼
Nope... certain constructs can be very tricky!
Indeed!
I said something. It was not a nice something.
Going to have to run the well line out to the garden again.
:grumble grumble grouch grouch:
Do you all get the same word, or is it different for each player?
Hi, I’m back, showered, and doing laundry. I don’t have to leave until 8-ish tomorrow morning: the first archery group is at 9:40, and then there’s a break before the second one
And that will be my last day of WAC Staff! Vlad and James and his hair will come home overnight on Wednesday and go back midday on Thursday.
We had a lot of rain the last few days. It didn’t happen during the camp program days, so the campers got to do all their activities, but they got pretty wet at night.
Are they doing the sleeping under the stars bit or did they not properly pitch their tents?
I think the toughest one recently, other than the one Saturday which was my first X/6, was one that used a consonant 3 times. I’m not going to write the word because some puzzlers here get theirs later than I get mine.
It’s the same word for everyone, unless you play one of the knock-off games that let you play until you drop dead. I’d rather just have the one!
Ah! So you’ll be a late-bird instead of an early-bird!
I don’t know what I’ll do tomorrow. Probably more of the same of what I did today. Which was sorting through things to decide which to keep and which to donate. At the moment, I have two book boxes (officially) that need to be unpacked, out of the five that were stacked up this morning.
The narrow bookcases need to be assembled. But I’m going to go through the stuff in the closet soon (within the next few weeks, I hope) to find more stuff for donation.
I guess this is what happens when things are so quiet on FR and I don’t feel like doing much of anything else.
I’m going to head down the hall. I hear the bed calling my name in heated graphics....
I’m glad you accomplished some things! I’ll be going to bed soon, too, after a little more laundry.
Yup, we had an afternoon something like that about 2 weeks ago... a smattering of drops... and nothing else... still have nothing in our 10 day outlook yet... we need this high pressure dome to become dislodged somehow...
Yes, I recall that one... and also a couple of “double doubles” lately... I don’t write the words either, never know who may not have played a game yet...
