Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

I don’t know about Wordle heaven. I was thinking of the general one.

I would think Wordle heaven would be very quiet except for occasional exclamations of “oh, come ON!”

But I could get by there. It’s punster’s heaven that I would never want to crash.

Reminds me of an old Monty Python routine about The Piranha Brothers.

Vercotti: Doug (takes a drink) Well, I was terrified. Everyone was terrified of Doug. I’ve seen grown men pull their own heads off rather than see Doug. Even Dinsdale was frightened of Doug.

2nd Interviewer: What did he do?

Vercotti: He used... sarcasm. He knew all the tricks, dramatic irony, metaphor, pathos, puns, parody, litotes and... satire. He was vicious.

It works!

How was Princess Dog during the fireworks? It would seem a lot of places were cutting back due to fire danger.

She was calm, but she wasn’t very active. She stayed close to us and quiet. Fortunately nothing went boom while she was out to do her “business.”

I’m glad she wasn’t too stressed. I’ve been entertaining the idea of getting a dog, but since I’m in this tiny apartment, that’s all it is, is an idea. But a critter would be nice...

If you put cat food on your doorstep, you’d probably have a cat in a few days.

I was thinking more in terms of getting a cat for health reasons...you know, to keep my blood pressure down? So I thought I’d start by checking the local animal shelter, where Mona got her sweet dog — free. I mean, if people don’t like cats, they can just stay away, right? ;o]

Absolutely. I think doing what you want regardless of the preferences of people who don’t live there is perfectly fine.

Especially since it’s known that I have a chronic illness and a history of high blood pressure associated with that illness. If someone wants to be Mr. Scrooge about my personal living arrangements, they can do so in their own space.

So this is probably going to be something to be dropped into the “To Be Continued” pile. ;o]

I finished the lyrics for Sunday. Now I have to get my forms together for camp staff.

Our neighbors did theirs off the floating dock in the middle of their two acre pond. It has been very dry here.

But we had some rain last night and are suppose to be getting some tomorrow.

We grew a field of cowpeas for the first time and it seems to be doing ok.

The garden has needed watering from the well this year for the first time since we moved here. Rain barrels were not enough. Apples are looking kind of small.

We had thirty seven people in attendance at the cook out so a great deal of ice cream was required.

We have a cook out on Independence Day and throw a party about a week before Christmas to pay off our social obligations for the year.

I haven’t even seen any gardens since I moved here, but I miss them. Water seems to be in short supply in a lot of places.

Well, yes, 30 people is quite a bunch! I hope it was a fun time for everyone.

4/6 today. Probably thanks to the coffee.
The party was indeed fun. Nobody got a big boo-boo which is always nice. When you have ten under ten running around small boo-boos are expected.
