Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

I’m supposed to get a package today. I ordered DP an Outer Banks t-shirt from “Our State,” the state tourism group.
Elen, USMC, phoned. She’s back from the destroyer and will go to Alaska in a couple of weeks.
An Outer Banks T-shirt sounds great!
Elen will absolutely love the beauty of Alaska, which is ALWAYS beautiful! Tin Cans are small and exciting! If one doesn’t get seasick.
I just listened to a talk about the Mayflower. Some aspects about it that I didn’t know. Now I want the book... ;o]
Good morning and good job!
I hope your Saturday is safe and fun!
She has been to Alaska before, but it was in November and during Covid. I hope she’ll be able to do something fun while she’s there in July.
The Nathaniel Philbrick book about the Mayflower?
Good Saturday Morning!
Hoping that the weekend is going well for all... glad that you are feeling a bit better ‘Face...
Still no rain here... and no solid forecasts for a drop...

Alaska in summer is to die for. Vegetables grow so fast they often crack. And the mosquitoes are hugh and vicious.
Yes, the very one! Have you read it? He just glossed over a few items that I had never even thought about. I can send the link if you want it — 30 minutes.
Thanks!
Just being able to type a coherent sentence is good! Some days, just getting out of bed is as good as it gets. So today is a good day! 😎
I think I’ve read it. The library says it came out in 2007, and that was a blur in my life. I’ve read some of his other books. Very detailed stuff.
My zucchini are growing really fast. I picked two this morning while I was on the phone with Elen, and I’ll probably get more at the end of the day.
I’m almost tempted to buy a zucchini and make some bread with it, but I may be out of the mood by the time the grocks are delivered next week. Just every once in a while, I get the hongries to make something like I did a bazillion years ago, and if the opportunity comes up, I seem to have lost my interest in it.
One thing that DID show up was the kettle corn! I treated myself to a couple of handfuls, reminding me that there is another seven days between now and the next time it can come.
I suspect having deliveries has gone a long way in helping to keep the symptoms to a minimum of severity, which is good, even though the amount is still massive. I’m hoping I feel well enough to go to church tomorrow, but I won’t have any clue until I wake up. The unpredictability is always the worst thing.
I’m glad you enjoyed the kettle corn. DP liked the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” t-shirt.
That’s so awesome about the shirt! Was it belated Father’s Day, or his birthday?
That’s almost as good as some that Nully sports, only true!
I’m thinking I shouldn’t have walked to Kroger on Thursday. My sweet little neighbor right next door came over later that afternoon to offer me her old cane. I took one of the walking sticks because I wasn’t sure about my balance, and she seemed to think it was just a stick I had picked up along the way. In this town? It’s a lot of things, but the only negative I can see (apart from the weather) is the narrow streets with no shoulder. Cleanliness seems to be a law here, so there wouldn’t have been a stick to pick up.
Anyway, I showed her both sticks, told her how they were used and also showed her the cane. She was happy that I had done that. Maybe she won’t worry so much about me now.
“Graveyard of the Atlantic” t-shirt?
That’s pretty cool, right, Nully? ;o])
I’d have to sea it.
Me neither, but I’ve admired the museum’s perfect architecture for years. It would be hard to imagine a building design that better captures the look and feel of a shipwreck.
What does the shirt look like?
I guess the old brain is not ticking along so great at this time of night.
