Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

A good Sunday morning to all!
So the forecast for the triple digits finally came to pass... truth be told, can’t tell much difference between 97, 99, 100, or 102 degrees out there...
More concerned about this persistent high pressure dome preventing us from getting any needed, soaking rains...
Keeping my seat on the four row train today:

Good morning. There were lots of black clouds in our area yesterday, but no rain fell on us.
Jake killed a finch. We took it away from him before he made a mess with it.
Good morning. Bad night, unfortunately, but I’m resilient. I did get some special affection from Shannon, which is unusual.
Speaking of Shannon, at the fundraiser dinner last night, I bought a gift certificate for a custom watercolor portrait from a local artist. I’m going to get a portrait of Shannon to give to Elen when she comes back to the U.S.
Sorry about your night. That was me the night before. Shannon is an old lady love, bless her bones.
What a thoughtful gift! Has Elen, USMC decided on her career choice? She could stay in, go to college and become an officer. Unless things have changed an awful lot in the military I once knew.
Now, I really have to go shower!
Elen, USMC, changes her opinion from one phone call to the next. Eventually, it will be time to re-up or not, and then she will make the for-realsies decision.
A blessed Lord’s Day to all!
Doing the four dance again…

What a lovely and thoughtful gift!
And I didn’t know Elen was a Marine. How long has she been in? That’s wonderful! I will keep her in n my prayers.
Dunno. Academe.edu would only let me see a brief excerpt, and I could puzzle out enough words to recognize my work (the technical terms are close cognates to the English words). No country of issue given, but very likely the company we did the development work for wanted to secure a European patent, so most likely France, maybe Belgium.
Seeing it was a bit weird, though...
Not much, but ratboy would occasionally kibitz.
5 of which is silt.
Going on four years. She’s based in Okinawa, but the last I heard, she was going on a Navy destroyer for a few weeks. Her MOS is “tactical air traffic control.” I think that means keeping our helicopters from flying into one another and stuff.
Fascinating.
I don’t doubt that at all! I don’t think it’s ever been serviced/cleaned or replaced and the place is 20 years old.
I think it’s excellent that she is in such a major position to do good. Thank her for me, please?
Good job! I haven’t done today’s yet. I wanted to get clean, first. Silly me. Like, that’s going to help my brain, right?
One day this past week, one of our dogs caught a bird that was lingering around on the ground for too long...
The shower was another tepid experience. I’m not happy with this and I think, when I go in for my recertification interview on Wednesday, I’ll bring it up to the manager. The water heater probably needs to be replaced.
Another day when I can’t breathe. Unngh. (I commented that to FDs morning greeting yesterday and she asked me what it meant.)
How many dogs do you have? I’ve only ever had one at a time, and I think for a brief while, way back when the kids were a lot younger and shorter, we had two cats, but none of them were ever allowed outside unless they were on a leash or a chain.
We have four woofers.
Today’s wasn’t too bad for a change. There weren’t that many possibilities. 😉
