Container gardens are great for small spaces. Look into Square Foot Gardening too. You can grow a lot in a very small space.

My last frost day will probably be in May.

I’ve already started some tomatoes.

The squirrels are what really go after my garden...."

I lost most of my tomatoes for a couple of years until I figured out it was the squirrels....never had seen anything like it.

Tried shooting them with a .22 but that was futile- too many of them.

Finally got some live traps, baited them with peanuts...and in 3 days time I took out 7 of them. Relocated miles away.

I also realized that they are very territorial. The squirrels in my front yard do not come to the back yard; at least for now...the garden is squirrel free.

Plan and buy supplies now. Definitely wait until after last frost for tomatoes, peppers, and such. But there are quite a few cool weather crops that can probably be planted now, depending where you’re located. Check with your County Cooperative Extension Agency for a list of crops and planting dates for your area.

If you don't have a green thumb and a lot of space, go with mushrooms. Some are very nutritious and extremely easy to cultivate. Also, if it comes to that, looters might bypass your crop. Mushrooms don't look yummy. Some of the best ones look like, well, tree rot.

If the food shortages get as bad as some of the alarmists are saying, you’ll need motion sensing gun sentries for the two legged variety of critters too

You can grow a garden even if you live in an apartment.

My last frost day will probably be in May.

I'm in middle lower Michigan, and the saying around here is "Last Frost Day is the 15th of May."

The space you have available to plant in is limited. Look for a local community garden, or if you have a small balcony, try a container garden or even Square Foot Gardening.

I grow lots of vegetables in containers like 5 gallon buckets. While the plants are small, I wrap them in chicken wire. Works every time.

Frost free date for me is May 5th.

Lettuce, komatsuma(Japanese spinach), cabbage and peas. All are ok with a touch of frost.

My son grows 8 different edible plants on an apartment balcony. Works well.
