Too many cops are choosing the side that uses and abuses them.
believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations. James Madison
Without a doubt, being a police officer is one of the most difficult and dangerous job on the planet. One has to admire those who take on the job. The American left has made its contempt of our police abundantly clear for several years now. Encouraging the BLM riots, excusing the damage done, decreeing no punishment for those who did billions of dollars in property destruction over the summer of 2020 was their coin of the realm. Lacking common sense and any skill at predicting the consequences of idiotic policies, they have doubled down on stupid as cities like NY, Chicago, DC, and LA rack up homicides committed by career criminals repeatedly let loose on an unsuspecting public.
On a daily basis innocent victims are attacked, injured or killed by violent perpetrators who have been released by cavalier lefty judges who have become self-appointed social justice warriors.

So how do we explain the fact that in countries around the world, Australia, UK, US, France, Belgium, Austria, and Canada, the police, those who were not fired for refusing the vaccine, have taken the opportunity to act like tyranny’s handmaidens rather than protectors of the people, their essential charge, the reason they signed up for the job? In Canada, a few have sided with the truck drivers’ cause, but the rest seem to enjoy the opportunity to roust good, law-abiding, non-violent protesters.

They obey those who control the paycheck and the pension.
Why are you revering police? That’s your problem.
"The Bluecoats are coming! The Bluecoats are coming!"
Because the cops you used to revere are not the cops of 20 years ago.
Roll around and look at the uniforms many are wearing. They’ve gone from vests under their shirts to vest carriers(which are awesome) to wearing Level IV plate carriers with rifle mags, as if they’re about to go do some Direct Action mission with Delta.
There has been a continuing trend toward an us vs them attitude. Starts with leadership that doesn’t need to be there.
Because Deep State has a mad-on for local control of LE.
Body cams have made it a helluva lot harder for cops who want to refuse an unethical order to keep their job.
The vaxx mandates have gotten rid of a lot of the personnel who would have refused to do this dirty work.
And Deep State has ensured that working conditions are so bad for local police that most of the people willing to apply are NOT the ones you would want on your force.
Like Deep State and Big Med have given us a de facto NHS, Deep State has now guaranteed our local LE has become a de facto Deep State police.
“Why are you revering police? That’s your problem.”
Cops are just revenue agents with guns. The keeping-you-safe thing, if it ever was a thing, has been long gone for at least a generation. According to the Supreme Court, a cop is not required to come to your aid. This isn’t to say their haven’t been brave cops who risked, or even lost their lives coming to someone’s aid. But such actions are on an individual basis and not part of the overall mission...which is writing tickets for revenue.
Because those that are attracted to having power are often the last one’s who should be trusted with it.
They don’t want to lose their job and pension.
Like the Germans in ww2 - they will say they are just doing their job. I am afraid the police much like the FBI are not the ones we grew up with.
“Body cams have made it a helluva lot harder for cops who want to refuse an unethical order to keep their job.”
This is why body cameras are definitely a two-edged sword. Eventually I imagine all footage will be reviewed and accessed by AI in real time and supplemented with drone footage. It will then become impossible for good cops to ‘look the other way’ if they want to stay on the job.
Freegards
The answer to the question us because we have an idealized version of police from 50 , 60 years ago in our heads, rather than the true, real picture that 98% will follow orders rather than follow the Constitution. Take cops at traffic stops. Most will do stops that have zero to do with public safety but are just pure revenue raising scams. And most will lie to entrap honest law abiding citizens.
This ^^^^^. Simple human nature.
Please fix the title.
Should be:
Why do we revere the police who are doing the tyrants’ bidding?
Old Firesign Theater line:
Chorus: “Police state! Police State!! POLICE STATE...!!!”
Woman’s voice: “Help! It’s the police!”
Because they are vermin who need to be exterminated.
Like everything else, the memories we have of the police is gone, replaced by what you see today. There are exceptions, but not enough to make a difference.
Ironically, the pensions they think they’re saving will be taken from them. Marxists are like evil locusts. They devour whatever is in their path…
Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland --- Christopher R. Browning
A summary from the Amazon page: "Ordinary Men is the true story of Reserve Police Battalion 101 of the German Order Police, which was responsible for mass shootings as well as round-ups of Jewish people for deportation to Nazi death camps in Poland in 1942. Browning argues that most of the men of RPB 101 were not fanatical Nazis but, rather, ordinary middle-aged, working-class men who committed these atrocities out of a mixture of motives, including the group dynamics of conformity, deference to authority, role adaptation, and the altering of moral norms to justify their actions. Very quickly three groups emerged within the battalion: a core of eager killers, a plurality who carried out their duties reliably but without initiative, and a small minority who evaded participation in the acts of killing without diminishing the murderous efficiency of the battalion whatsoever."
Ordinary men. Ordinary people. Ordinary governments.
