The James Webb Telescope was successfully launched yesterday, Christmas Day. It is now on route to a point about a million miles from earth where it will be in orbit around the sun and pointed out beyond the solar system. Hopefully, setting up the Webb telescope will be as successful as its launch.
Okay, so here is my question: What AMAZING discoveries do you think the Webb telescope will reveal? The Hubble telescope was able to take us back in time to very early after the creation of the universe but the Webb telescope, using infrared technology will take us back almost to the moment of the Big Bang.
The Hubble revealed that the universe is much more vast and chock full of galaxies that we ever imagined. Also one discovery that SHOCKED scientists is that the universe is expanding at an INCREASING rate rather than slowing down eventually to contract upon itself as was generally expected before the Hubbell telescope.
Given that the Webb telescope will give us a view of the universe to a point much earlier in time than the Hubble, what do you think will be discovered that we did not know before?
More aliens out there that will vote Democrat?
uh...that the testing of all systems was insufficient.....
obama’s certificate of live birth?
Pecker Tracks on Uranus
“More aliens out there that will vote Democrat?”
The question is are they vaccinated?
Okay, I knew there would be wiseguy answers but to break the mood, I seriously think it will reveal a lot more about the Dark Energy in the universe. Will Webb reveal the exact moment of the Big Bang? Who knows?
A planet made of ivermectin
New particles. If it can see close enough to the big bang, or what we think was a big bang, we may see particle behaviors never seen before. Energy forms that are odd and behave strangely.
It WONT find the missing 80% or so of the universe (dark matter, dark energy), that is necessary to make the math work for the big bang to be plausible. That’s why we “have” to have dark matter and dark energy.
IMHO, it’s bunk. Just like I have been saying string theory is bunk as well for 20+ years. Now string theory is just about dead....good riddance.
Stop patching holes in bad theories and come up with ones that work.
It will discover a “Let’s Go Brandon” banner on another planet.
Another telescope on the other side of everything, looking back at us.
Energy signatures that cannot be natural ; structures that are not within accepted norms for planets ; still more rouge planets, making them more the norm than theory accounts for ; significantly fast moving objects leaving energy trials.

If dark energy is bunk then why is the universe expanding at an increasing rate? When I see fireworks explosions (or any kind of explosion) it starts off at its most rapid rate and then slows down. Something (or some energy force) is making that increasing rate of expansion of the universe.
PJ in all seriousness I’m sure there will be many things that are jaw droppers for astrophysicist and astronomers. But I’m doubting there will be much for guys in their 60’s sitting in Missouri. I’d LOVE to be both wrong and surprised.
“...Energy forms that are odd and behave strangely...”
We already have these in the White House today.....
The big bang, “first there was nothing and then it exploded” is on pretty solid ground. The fact that the math has not yet caught up is only slightly worry some. Now the expansion of the universe at an ever increasing rate is hard to believe since that indicates that someday the universe will be a vast nothing. That is hard to buy into.
