Julius Jones was scheduled to be executed at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, however, announced at noon Thursday he has commuted Jones' sentence to life without the possibility of parole.

The standard for justice in our nation is beyond a reasonable doubt.
That works for me.
Leftists will never stop saying murderers are innocent no matter what.
To confuse leftist lies with doubt of guilt is what Satan wants.
“The fact is, Julius Jones murdered Paul Howell in cold blood in front of his sister and daughters,” Attorney General Hunter said. “No celebrity imploration or profusion of misinformation will change that. The information we are releasing today is from the trial transcript, and it disproves every claim that he is innocent. I strongly encourage those calling for his commutation to read the compelling evidence in this document. Jones had his day in court. We’ve heard a lot recently from those advocating for his release. I’m here today to support the Howell family’s plea for justice. They are the victims in this case, and the pain of their loss is reawakened with each misguided public appeal on Jones’ behalf.”

(Black Lives Matter more than others, you see!)
Even “without parole” that’s iffy. One of the Brinks murder defendants Kathy Boudin convinced a gullible parole board she was such a good little girl and model prisoner, and was on her death bed. That was in 2004 and now has some (dis)honorable professorship at Columbia. As a parting shot, just before Killing Fields Cuomo stepped down he pulled some strings and got David Gilbert, Boudin’s baby daddy released. They spawned SF DA Chesa Boudin, named after a cop killer. Real classy
Not just feed but give them health care at a level only the wealthy and illegals receive.
Thanks for the link:
“Jones was convicted in 2002 of murdering Edmond resident Paul Howell during a carjacking. At the 1999 trial, an eyewitness testified that the shooter was wearing a red bandanna. Authorities who searched Jones’ parents’ home found the murder weapon wrapped in a red bandanna in the attic space above the ceiling in his closet.
In 2018, at the request of the defense counsel, the state agreed to test the DNA on the bandanna. The bandanna was sent to a lab chosen by the defense. The conclusive results of the DNA profile on the red bandanna show the probability of the DNA belonging to someone other than Jones is one in 110 million African Americans.”
Maybe the gov. will defend. Should be a laugh a minute.
Yeah, but they look alike anyway.
I agree with this outcome. No cuck here. Lots of Freepers have modified their view about the death penalty.
So he’s being spared the death penalty, ostensibly because he might be innocent, but still locked away for life?
Prosecutors use the death penalty in plea bargains ("Plead guilty and you get life instead of death"). With death off the table, that means they will plea bargain lower.
There’s no calls to get Dylann Roof off of death row. Not that he doesn’t deserve it but peculiar how it works that way. Pretend to Rage Against the Machine have been outspoken opponents of capital punishment for ages. Maybe they can do a benefit concert in his behalf? Perhaps do a smarmy rendition of Knocking on Heaven’s Door? (((((crickets)))). The left thinks they’re slick when it comes to picking and choosing their battles, aren’t they?
The Oklahoma governor is a coward.
“Is this the one Kim Kardashian says is innocent?”
Yes, you notice her group never exonerates white
“innocent” criminals?
He’s going to die anyway…
Disgusting.
I am pro death penalty as well, but I asked my dad, who was a prosecutor for 40 years, how he felt about the death penalty. And he said that he was not usually in favor of it. He had seen mistakes made, and it was possible in some instances for an innocent man to be convicted.
In relation to white collar crime, he also said this, “Just because you can prosecute someone, doesn’t mean you should.” I think he was referring to the abundance of laws people don’t even know they are breaking because there are SO many of them now. Regulations, etc.
(I think in the last few years we’ve seen a lot of that from the left - prosecutions for being a friend of Trump.)
I do know that the last murderer my dad prosecuted involved a capital murder. The crime was especially heinous and heartless and had good witnesses. Man was eventually executed.
No, the politicians and judges who unjustly commute sentences of murderers should be abolished.
The GOP fellow travelers strike again...
Just remember the puking screwup a couple of weeks ago.
I happen to know a guy on death row. He coached my son’s flag football team. He’s schitzo and so was his dad and there’s no way I’d stand up and defend him. My wife’s friends dad had a movie made out of his story, and was in and out of prison his whole life.
Most of these serious / hardened criminals are schitzo to some degree or another.
Crimes committed before the age of 20 are a little different than the old hard core convicts. I wouldn’t want the job.
