Julius Jones execution live updates: Governor spares life of Julius Jones

Julius Jones was scheduled to be executed at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, however, announced at noon Thursday he has commuted Jones' sentence to life without the possibility of parole.

Japan never gives its condemned an execution date or any timeline, and in some cases not even a last meal.

The executioners will simply show up unannounced on any given day and execute the criminal.

1) Note further down the article: "Downtown OKC Partnership, which hosts the Oklahoma City Tree Lighting Festival, announced Thursday morning the event, which was scheduled for just an hour after Jones' scheduled execution time, was canceled.". 2) Surely there is one Oklahoma legislator with the stones to create a "Julius Jones" bill to restore at hard labor to all life sentences without the possibility of parole!
