OUCH! But facts matter!
The snakes, the symbol for Aesklepios, ornament the marble altar. In the ancient world, snakes symbolized healing and life-renewal. The caduceus was adopted as a symbol of the medical profession because of its similarity with the serpent entwined staff of Aesklepios.
It contains premises such as a small theater with a capacity of 3,500 people, rooms where the patients were cured by the sound of water and music, the temple of Asklepion and the library. Here, the dreams of the patients were analyzed by their doctors (priests) 2000 years before Sigmund Freud did. One of the important personalities associated with the Asklepion was Galen (Galenus) from the 2nd c. AD.
Archeology has found lots of gifts and dedications that people would make afterwards, such as small terracotta body parts, no doubt representing what had been healed. Notable extant structures in the Asclepieion include the Roman theater, the North Stoa, the South Stoa, the Temple of Asclepius, a circular treatment center (sometimes known as the Temple of Telesphorus), a healing spring, an underground passageway, a library, the Via Tecta (or the Sacred Way, which is a colonnaded street leading to the sanctuary), and a propylon.
My favorite phto from 2 years in Turkey:
The Medusa at Didyma
In my opinion your post only recognizes part of the problem or maybe I just don’t get the whole message. Anyway I consider modern medicine to be great at trauma care but useless or even harmful in care of chronic conditions. I have pulmonary fibrosis and I was given a prognosis of six months to two years in August of 2018. I have NOT done everything according to doctor’S ORDERS and I am 95 percent certain that, had I done so, I would have died within the two years as predicted. I credit my own decisions for the fact that I am still alive. I hear similar stories from others.
