All of the diets designed to get rid of stubborn belly fat prohibit alcohol and white flour consumption. Which means pasta, pizza, and red wine are off the menu.

A 2014 Harvard study found that men who did twenty minutes of daily weight training had less of an increase in age-related abdominal fat compared with men who spent the same amount of time doing aerobic activities, and other studies have shown similar levels of success when guys hit the gym to cut down on fat. The implication: Guys can cut belly fat most efficiently with weight training.

Consistency is key in the weight room. Try to stick to a plan that has you exercising at least three days a week, using as many compound movements (think squats, presses, and deadlifts) as possible. There are tons of great fat burning exercises to choose from β€” or you can begin by trying this simple interval routine.

I'm 73 and was brought up on this kind of diet. Provolone cheese and Genoa salami and red wine. But the belly fat's too much. I do hour-long cardio walks daily and 50 push-ups a day but it doesn't make any difference.

Weight training 3 days a week 45 mins each session will do wonders.

You need good equipment for the range of motion.

I hate to pass this on, but the only thing that works past 60 is calorie control. You probably need to get below 2000 calories a day and closer to 1500 to lose weight.

Due to my low thyroid even with proper blood test results with levothyroxin, I can barely lose a couple of pounds. Guess I would be like Michael Moore if I DIDN’T do the exercise and dieting, though.

Heard of the guy who gave up drinking, smoking, sitting around watching TV and eating junk foods? He now remembers those as the worst 45 minutes of his whole life.

Do you do any core or ab workouts?

I’m 73 and I lost a big belly with intermittent fasting.

I can eat whatever I want, because with intermittent fasting, it’s not what you eat but when you eat. Of course, how much you eat plays into it a bit, too, but not as much as with diets. Just eat until you’re satisfied. Don’t overdo it. You know when you’re overdoing it.

Low calories....

Wish you hadn’t told me but actually I knew you were right.

And the sneaky darn body keeps raising the bar. Cut out certain desserts and sides with carbs and lose weight at 50. Do that over 60 and you still gain. Up the ante again every few years. I’m 75 now.

What and how much you eat is the main factor regarding how much you weight. Working out just firms everything up.

Intermittent Fasting: part 2

Oh, and I lost 32 lbs in 4 months, going from 182 to 150.
That’s over 15% weight loss in 4 months, and almost all of it in the belly.

What has really helped me is intermittent fasting combined with low carb diet.

Basically I try most days to not eat until noon. But if I'm really hungry, I'll have a breakfast scrambler for breakfast.

And I've been eating

low carb pizzas.

  1. You take a carb balance medium sized flour tortilla (net carbs 4).
  2. Sprinkle a thin layer of mozzarella on half of it and fold it over. You basically want the cheese to seal the two layers of tortilla together when it cooks.
  3. Then spray the top layer with olive oil, to prevent the sauce from soaking in to the tortilla.
  4. Put a couple of teaspoons of pizza sauce on it and spread it around. (4g carbs /0.25 cups) so <1g carbs.
  5. Nice layer of mozzarella on that.
  6. Italian seasoning
  7. A little extra salt
  8. Toppings. I like the mini pepperonis.
  9. Place in Air fryer on foil for 4 minutes on the steak setting.

Excellent Pizza taste and very low carb.

Reduce calories consumed.
Visceral fat is the first to go.
Don’t snack between meals.
Eat more earlier in the day.
Go to bead hungry.
Activity is a good thing, but not for losing weight.

Throw in giving up women and you will realize you no longer need to work...

You’re eating too much, sorry to say. And eat less caloric dense foods.

Read Dr. William Davis’s book, “Wheat Belly.” I read it, gave up wheat, and lost 15 pounds. More importantly, my LDL dropped 40 points the first month. I’m a female, very small person. Now weigh 118. My doc put his hand on my muscular upper arm when he met me and said, “You’re very strong. You’ll live to be 100.” Muscular strength is the top indicator of a long life.

Work out with weights at home or join the gym. Do a mile every day on the treadmill or walk around your ‘hood.

BTW, I eat butter, steak, chicken and eggs. Cheese is fine too. No pork because pigs are as smart as dogs and I wouldn’t eat my dog.

I lost 100 of my 262 pounds due to an unknown internal virus a few years back

(I still say it was the chimichanga lunch special)

Since then, I only eat one late meal a day

I can do 2-3 days without eating and not even think about

A couple of Ensures a day seems to suffice

And, I have a glass of red wine every day for my heart’s sake. It has resveratrol. My sister’s cardiologist told her to drink it for her heart, but she’s a recovering alcoholic and won’t. Blueberries are a wonderful source of resveratrol too. Or you can buy it in capsules which are ridiculously expensive. If you’re a big man, two glasses of red are probably good for you.

That is exactly correct, even for people well below 60 - if they want to lose the fat at anything other than at a glacial pace fast anyway.

“Fat burning exercises” aren’t going to do much. Even just an extra tablespoon of peanut butter or so will take a couple hours of exercise to burn.

The “dieter” will very quickly learn that not many calories are necessary!

Intermittent fasting seems to be settling me at a Slightly lower weight, but I only have about 10 pounds to lose and it’s verrrry slow. 30 years of daily exercise to make my Air Force run times and strength tests helped me keep from gaining a ton. One a week slow machine reps helps.
