Folks...it is becoming apparent that the Democrats are pursuing policies that are going to collapse our economy. They are also taking steps to make sure they never leave power. What is a person to do? We have the examples of Argentina and Venezuela clearly before us. Anyone have some helpful ideas? Ferfal of Argentina has a blog spot and wrote a book, but information from our situation here would be helpful.
Gold, silver, land.
“Solar generator with extra panels. Not a climate change nut but having the ability to have lights, watch DVDs, maybe cook etc could make life infinitely more bearable.”
I need CPap at night for my sleep apnea, and we could recharge our phones and smart books if we had wifi. Also to recharge our flash and head lights.
.
You can’t eat gold or silver.
If this happens, currency will become essentially worthless. Your savings will have become zero. But a bushel of potatoes is still a bushel of potatoes.
Sounds like a nice bit of farmland with trees would be nice. If the politicians don’t seize it because you dared to live and exist outside of their oppressive system of total dependence on government.
“Land MIGHT make sense”
To make sense, use the land to produce products to sell or rental income. This income will help cover taxes, if taxes go up pass it to the consumer.
During the hyperinflation years a lot of people will not be able to buy a home due to interest rates.
RV camping spots would be a great low cost rental business.
What if there is nothing to buy?
Gold and silver retain a steady value.
Lead might also be a good investment.
Real estate, seeds and livestock.
There would have to be literally nothing of value left for that to happen.
Hard to imagine in a world where people need to eat.
I have skills with those well beyond most. I always figured it would be handy one day heh.
Your time may very well be at hand...good luck!
You should look into that new Elon Musk satellite internet company..
Residential real estate or farm land....
The OP mentions Farfel and Argentina.
I wonder how the above holdings did, in Argentina, during their crash.
And, how they’re currently doing, in Venezuela.
You’ve decided that your business will have an insatiable demand for ammunition. No problem.
But that’s only half the equation.
Remember - the midwife, the electrician, the guy who delivers the fuel-oil: they need a form of payment that meets THEIR requirements.
Will they be able to buy morphine or replace car-parts with ammunition?
Plausibly in a Mad Max world, but even then they face a huge amount of attrition in ammunition barter. How many 22 LR to a 45 ball, or a 45 blank, or various gauges of shotgun ammo?
But Gold and silver - every one wants them, because they solve the coincidence of wants, and they won’t have to wander over Arizona trying to get change for a .50 BMG round.
I live in the country..I could last a while..I could eat and drink..for free.
It's the urban folk..that will have problems.
Lot of SHTF great info in the comments. What IF the world and US economy won’t end, rather will correct.
Then a good place to be in is what’s broadly called “Infinite Banking Concept” or with it’s frightening name (to some) high-cash-value-dividend-paying-life-insurance.
After we’ve marched on Wall Street and strung up their executives, after the purges in DC, the last companies standing will be those with real (ok, they’re fake dollars, but if we’re assuming life eventually goes on, real) dollars in their electronic accounts are life insurance companies— the only ones that have to have the cash on hand and haven’t lent it in a fractional reserve banking legal theft scheme.
Read into my adjectives as commentary but it is, in this case, the legal and moral ... dare I say libertarian solution short of prepping. And invest in the three precious metals: gold, silver, lead, of course.
Post number 24, but not necessarily that far down the list of requirements.
FReeQ mail.
Things you can physically hold and use - stocks and bonds would be useless, unless you can afford to hold them for 50 years....
Besides one or two solar generators, as I posted before. New 12 volt vehicle batteries to power lights, microwave and ?.
One of our younger relatives has some suggestions:
Sleeping bags that zip together, one light pair and one medium pair. Even in California, when the temps get down to freezing outside, you need some way to keep warm at night when you have no natural gas or electricity to heat your home.
Efficient electric Room fans that can circulate the air from one of your rechargeable 12 volt batteries with a power inverter.
High end portable water filter.
Water catchment systems to capture rainwater running off roofs for flushing and whatever or to get drinking/cooking water via your high end filter.
Good canned soups that don’t need water added and canned veggies/meats that can be added to the soups or eaten by them selves.
Carbs as crackers or high end cereal.
TP, facial tissue, paper or bamboo towels.
As much otc drugs like eye drops, steroid nasal sprays, anti histamines and ???? as you can afford and rotate the stock by buying new and storing it and use the oldest dated products.
First aid kits and supplies for the kits.
