Nearly 42,000 years ago, when Earth’s magnetic fields reversed, this triggered major environmental changes, extinction events, and long-term changes in human behavior, a new study reports.
The findings, made possible by a new radiocarbon record derived from New Zealand’s ancient kauri trees, raise important questions about the evolutionary impacts of geomagnetic reversals and excursions throughout the deeper geological record, the authors say.
“Before this work,” says author Chris Turney in a related video, “we knew there were a lot of things happening around the world at 42,000 years ago, but we didn’t know precisely how… For the first time, we’ve been able to precisely date what happened when Earth’s magnetic fields last flipped.”
Written in the geological record are numerous instances where the planet’s magnetic poles flipped. Today, such an event would almost certainly wreak havoc with modern electronic and satellite technologies. However, the potential environmental impacts of such events are virtually unknown.
The most recent major magnetic inversion, the Laschamps excursion, a relatively short-lived geomagnetic event that occurred ~41,000 years ago, provides one of the best opportunities to study the potential impacts of extreme changes to Earth’s magnetic field. However, despite compelling evidence from several paleoenvironmental records that suggest it coincided with significant environmental and ecological changes, the ability to precisely characterize this event and determine its role — if any — in contemporaneous global changes has been limited by an uncertain radiocarbon calibration for the period.
The sun has a giant magnetic field.
The earth has it’s own magnetic field.
If the earths would shift, then the north and south poles would try to ‘align’ in the sun’s magnetic field in a frictionless environment (space)
The centripetal force of the earth spinning would fight it, but it would eventually wobble and be very bad.
What makes the earth have a magnetic field? The inner core has a slightly different rotation than the outer.
Why would that happen? I have a theory about the outer crust getting set into motion by a huge meteor strike, and then it swings back and forth against the elasticity of the inner core like a spring door swinging back ad forth, with a periodicity of 26,000 years.
So we’re all doomed! DOOMED I TELL YOU!!!
Vulnerable? Definitely. We only have 12 years left before tragedy.....
Gheeze, we don’t have enough BS to worry about?
Ben Davidson (not the football player)The government wants to disarm us after 244 yrs 'cuz they plan to do things we would shoot them for!
At no point in history has any government ever wanted its people to be defenseless for any good reason ~ nully's son
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
I’m sure Bill Gates and Tony Fauci will get right on this, so we don’t need to worry.
The sun is now entering a phase of reverse polarity with the earth.
Is the magnetosphere created by a dynamo effect of the core axis not aligning with the crust axis?
I think it's every 12,000 years but yes. Something happens to the crust of the earth and our star. Now think about Piezoelectricity (solid materials in motion creates electricity)
The black mat across all of north america from Mexico to Canada from the east to the west coast. The temperature reached 900 deg F for a short time. To large an area in my opinion for a meteor as they come down in what they call pearl necklines affect which isn't wide enough.
My belief it was a very large flare from the sun or a micro-nova. Or Piezoelectricity caused by massive movement of the earth.
Which after earthquakes we see what is called earthquake lights

LOL!
Perhaps a LOT closer than Vela...
See above.
No. Never!
Nope. Dinosaur farts.
That is what gets me the most. We do have real major events the earth goes through. But we're worried about the scamdemic, Global warming and the evil white culture or some none sense to divide people.
The last major event was the start of the mid-evil warming period which starved the agrarian Roman civilization to its end. Which was mild compared to what what we're talking about here.
This needs to verified by East Anglia, or Snopes. More speculating scientists.
LOLOL!
How dare you post that. Math is racist!

How did warming starve the Romans?
