Beto O'Rourke is back is the spotlight as Texas continues to face a statewide crisis.
Hundreds of thousands of Texans remain without power Thursday morning as millions more deal with burst pipes and other consequences of unprecedented winter weather. O'Rourke, the former 2020 Democratic presidential and 2018 Texas Senate candidate, has been making the TV rounds to call out the Republicans who've shifted the blame for the power shortages — and is organizing to check in on senior citizens throughout it all.
On Wednesday night, O'Rourke announced he and volunteers had made more than 150,000 wellness calls to seniors throughout the state. And in an interview with CNN, he called out Republicans, including Gov. Greg Abbott (R), who have inaccurately placed most of the blame for the power failures on Texas' renewable energy sources.

Disagree. . . .and yes, live here in Denton County. Hardly any power. freezing in my home, now we have to boil water to drink.
Small baby. . .yes, had that, too, 40-yrs ago when my son was born and we were in an old Quonset hut in the UK, no heat during their most cold winter in a 100yrs.
Not really a Senators job.
They have an entire Texas government !
I am tired of torching Republicans for burping while Democrats rape the entire country.
You must not have much to do.
I blame Biden! Instead of playing Mario Kart all weekend, he shoulda been on the phone with Abbott and FEMA getting tents and fire pits and wood to distribute to freezing Texans, especially since this icy weather was forecasted a week ago. Trump was held responsible for any little problem in America. Why can’t we do the same instead of turning on our fellow conservatives?
Unless you expect him to personally go door-to-door, he can do most everything by phone... from anywhere... like the rest of us. Again, I get the optics... but then there's reality.
That's Ted Cruz's only saving grace.
Lee Atwater was fond of saying perception is reality.
“I am tired of torching Republicans for burping while Democrats rape the entire country“
Well I won’t totally disagree, but again our side shouldn’t do stupid things.
But time to move on, and learn from it and not do it again.
Yes I have plenty to do.
How about you?
Oh. . .and why would anyone feel that a US Senator with no power or authority over the state government would do anything other than get in the way.
I despise Robert for his political posturing and would also despise if Cruz did the same.
I suspect most whining over Cruz and his 24-hr trip are jealous and demand he suffer as much as everyone else.
Does anyone on the left or media understand how federalism works, why we have state and local governments?
The dems and media blur the lines between the federal government to play into the grubby hands of dems and media. Convincing the sheep that the federal government runs all-—they don’t-—then when something happens that falls clearly within the purview of state government, the sheep cry that anyone in the federal government must do something, and if not doing anything like they are “expected” to, they should at least look like they are doing something.
Federal government/reps/senators just get in the way as they play politics.
But. . .the left and media like political smoke and mirrors and that isn’t helpful.
If the state needs federal help, they can ask for it. Until then, federal agencies, government, politicians stay out.
Cruz barely beat Beto. Beto out there doing welfare checks. He’s an idiot and he’s prob just getting I the way but come on...
Ted Cruz photo on line at Cancun counter, looking like Dog meat by the way, saying, ‘not my job’...‘we, uh, it was my daughters’ fault. Both of them’...’ah, I’ll be right back...’
Ya that’s just fine.
Whatever you think.
Only if the governor calls and asks.
He hasn’t asked.
Cruz can recommend calling in federal assistance, but the only one with the authority to officially ask is the governor.
And ONLY if the Texas governor asks for federal assistance.
Its what I know.
Please see Post 61 and 95.
If people in Texas see him at their door, they might think he is coming for their guns, and it might not end well for him....
He can ask but he has no authority to officially ask/disptach send federal “assistance.”
That power solely resides with the governor.
Isn’t it convenient? News of Cruz in Cancun and just like magic, an article appears showing Beto “helping” Texans. This is so obviously contrived its pathetic.
Bush got blamed for Katrina. Trump had Hurricane Harvey, I don’t think he got blamed for that so much....
But Biden should be blamed for the deaths during this cold spell....
If life were fair
it isn’t
