Do you remember the McPizza?
Gen Z probably doesn't. But, for children of the '80s and '90s, the dish brings back memories of a time when you could order a pizza alongside your burgers and fries.
For some reason, McDonald's Twitter account also recently decided to reminisce about its lost pizza, tweeting: "remember when we sold McPizza."
Memories of McPizzas past provide an opportunity to walk down memory lane, savoring the cheesy nostalgia of menu items lost but not forgotten.
McDonald's first debuted its pizza in the '80s. Rivals mocked McDonald's attempts, with Pizza Hut even running ads calling the pies "McFrozen" in 1989.
The pizza became a part of a wider effort from the chain to win over customers around dinnertime in the early '90s. McDonald's also tested items including "grilled cod served on french bread with sauce, lettuce and tomato, and 'Chicken Zestado,' a grilled chicken breast served on pita bread with salsa," the Associated Press reported in 1991.

I don’t remember this, I doubt the McDonald’s in my area offered this.
I remember the McDLT and the McLean Deluxe.
McDonald’s has had a few products that never caught on and were discontunued.
Bet it was frozen.
Bring back the McRibb!
I just want the McSpam that is sold overseas ...
“I don’t remember this, I doubt the McDonald’s in my area offered this.”
Ditto. If McPizza were ever offered in my area, I suspect I’d have heard about it. I vaguely remember hearing that this was being tested in other parts of the country, but I don’t think it ever came to my region (SF Bay Area).
“Thats called McRibbing and it’s not fair.”
/bringing something back that people love, only to take it away a short time later
If the McRib is so popular, why don’t they add it to the menu? I can’t believe they make more money by only offering it intermittently?
hype
artificial demand by limiting supply
i never enjoyed it but lots of people go nuts for it
So the “artificial demand” is greater than just selling it full time?
apparently mcdonalds has determined its better for them to do it this way than as a regular menu item
The McDLT was delicious!
It had the two sides separated so they didn’t get soggy, had a thick patty, cheese, thick, fresh tomato and lettuce.
Enviros objected to the styrofoam so they canceled it, but I really enjoyed, it was the best cheeseburger they sold.
I dont remember it, I think I was living overseas at the time.
Not much of a McDonalds fan but for me the best McDonalds era was the McSteak, McOnion Nuggets, and the salad bar, with one of those crazy shake flavors.
I dont actually remember what those products were actually called but I rather liked them then. When was that? Im guessing ‘74 ish? Maybe more like ‘76?
No, its because of the way its made. More specifically the primary cut.
There isnt much demand for that cut normally and there isnt much of it. It just builds up until McDonalds comes along and offers McRib because they can buy it cheap and turn a decent profit.
It doesnt take long for an organization that size to start using up the limited supply and of course prices start going up for the production of the rib patty.
Price goes up, margin gets smaller until they have to stop and wait for supply to build up again.
McDonald's bought so much pork prices went up. Pork prices go up and your profit falls.
So they pick a time when pork prices are down and bring it back for a short time but not long enough to send pork prices back up.
People get their fix, McDonald's makes a profit, everyone is happy.
Want.
Never heard of it...
And I pretty much lived on fast food in the 80s and 90s and travelled a lot.
I got it a couple of times. It wasn’t as good as one from a cheap pizza restaurant (Dominos or Pizza Hut). It took longer to cook/warm up as typical McDonald’s food so if you ordered one you ended up having to park and wait for it.
>>Bring back the McRibb!<<
There is a very smart reason they keep that on occasion. Among other reasons, it keeps buzz.
Each McRib season I have 2 and a large fries and I am good until next time.
Just like once a year I have a Big Mac and 1/4 Pounder w/Cheese and my McD fix is good. Probably just fond college food memories.
