Those who have joined us in recent years have been spared something on this forum that was all too common for all too long: the dreaded “opus.” Sometimes shrill, sometimes plaintive, often quite lengthy, these were vanity posts explaining why the member was leaving FR. For the life of me I could never figure out why we were treated to these narcissistic rambles.
Well, today I am 20 years on Free Republic, and this is my “no-pus,” because I’m not going anywhere. Thank you to my brothers and sisters in the fight for liberty for keeping company for two decades.
I’ve mellowed over the years and in the course of making over 3,700 replies. I still have two pet peeves, though:
I’ve realized that it is unkind to criticize the grammar of others so I don’t do it anymore. However, one exception is the despicable practice of pluralizing word’s using apostrophe’s. I can’t imagine where this violence against grammar comes from. I still see red and pounce very time I see it.
The second, based on my decades in the law, is the widespread belief that lawsuits, particularly the “class action,” are magic wands that can banish one’s foes. To the contrary they are difficult, expensive, and very time consuming. Add in the many corrupt federal judges, and entertaining the litigation fantasy is just not a productive use of one’s time. Likewise the fantasy, often expressed here, that public officials and judges can or should be jailed for their decisions. Again one’s mental energies directed on that line are just a dead end.
So that’s my airing of grievances. But mostly I want to thank all of my FRiends, and especially Jim. Here’s to another 20 years
My first inclination (unfortunately) was to suggest that maybe that clown Eric Fartsmell could lend a Chinese hand (so to speak) to help with that situation.
My second inclination isn't much better. There was a song in the 1960's that said, "...twenty years of schooling and they put you on the day shift...".
Oh well, best of luck to you in the future, no matter which shift you post on.
Lurked for a couple years. The Class of 1998 was scary enough to keep me from signing up before the Al Gore mess. And I still got my butt chewed by A+Bert.
Maybe this is why I never got into facebook or utube or
all the other social media.
I understood how to use FR. It satisfied me then and it still satisfies me today.
IBTZ.
Congrats!
I’m at 17ish years but lurked before joining, so right behind you.
God bless Freerepublic and JR, and may God abundantly bless the United State’s (apostrophe on purpose lol) of America. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Happy FRanniversary!
My 20th was 12/8. I tried to leave once, but that was on Groundhog Day. Never tried again.
or again
or again...
I’ve been here since 1994 and still going. I remember when we really thought they were going to “catch” Bill Clinton, saw the towers fall on Free Republic, and I’m watching this election with all of you. Life is short so don’t waste it. Be sure to have the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Just a rookie at 18.
A+ was a piece of work.
A+bert.. good old days. He was a bit wacky

Impressive! It seems like 23 years is the max that’s shown when floating over the screen names, back to Nov. 28 2017, but wasn’t the forum actually formed before then?
26 years ... now that's double plus impressive! I've been wondering how far back FR went. Is 1994 when it formed? I guess from some earlier posts that back then it was a Bulletin Board ... Compuserve? I was on Compuserve back then but not political.
March 28 will be 23 years for me as well.
Need a thumbs up..
I have been here 19 yrs
Congratulations!
I’m in the same ballpark ... will be here 21 years in six days from now. My account says “You’ve posted a total of 651 threads and 50,892 replies.”
Things are a bit different in the Internet world, from way back then.
